From a considerably delayed report, the following facts are obtained concerning Rev. Sidney L. Gulick, the only member of our class who has received an honorary degree from the College:
After twenty years of service with the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America he retired about two years ago, and since that time has had a varied experience of social enjoyment, anxiety and solicitous care on account of his wife's affliction with arthritis and a sister's impaired health in advanced years.
After his retirement, he visited his son in Rochester, N. Y., and then his daughter in Berea, Ky. Afterwards he spent a week in Chicago at the Exposition of Progress. He then spent four months in Honolulu with his aged sister, while his wife visited with her kinsfolk in California. Rejoining her after his visit to Honolulu, he and his wife spent a year in Ashland, Oregon, where Mrs. Gulick, under the care of a remarkable physician of outstanding therapeutic skill, was cured of her affliction of arthritis.
Following his stay at Ashland, he again went to Honolulu for a visit, but, finding his sister in failing health at this time and in need of a brother's care, he took up his stay there indefinitely, being later rejoined there by Mrs. Gulick. They expect to remain in Honolulu for some time, according to his last letter from there.
He writes that "we are finding Honolulu very beautiful and also delightful asto climate; more so than I had anticipated." And he adds that "many peoplehave come here for their closing years, andI don't wonder." "A recent visitor fromCalifornia is reported to have said thatHawaii has all that California is supposedto have and then some. Much can be saidfor the proposition."
He expresses the hope that the '83 "boys" face their closing years with as much peace and satisfaction as he does and to all of whom he extends best wishes.
His address is No. 2451 E. Manoa Rd., Honolulu, T. H.
Secretary, Hartford, Vt.
