THE ANNUAL fall meeting of the Alumni Council will be held in Boston, at the University Club, on Friday, October 21. The day's program will begin at 10 o'clock, although some committee meetings- may be held the preceding afternoon and evening. A luncheon will be held at the University Club at one o'clock to which all former members of the Council are invited. The entire group and guests will be entertained by the Councillors of the Boston area at a reception at the University Club following the afternoon business meeting.

The Alumni Council, founded in 1913, has for its purpose "to give organizationand aid for the highest efficiency to all efforts of the alumni of Dartmouth .Collegefor the benefit of the College; and moreparticularly in the following respects:To act as a clearing house for alumnisentiment and the interchange of alumniideas.

To approve or disapprove projects putforth in the alumni name, and to be theseat of authority in all such matters.

To act as the official spokesman ofalumni sentiment to the administration,and as the avenue of approach by whichthe administration should have access tothe alumni collectively.

To initiate and carry on such undertakings, or to provide for their being carried on, as are reasonably within the province of alumni activity." Among the Council's most important activities at the present time are the annua] Alumni Fund campaigns, nomination of Alumni Trustees of the College, a project for strengthening class organizations (through wider circulation of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and in other ways), interviewing applicants for admission under the Selective Process, sponsoring certain activities by alumni clubs and associations, and a project for adding to the gifts and endowment of the College.

There are 31 members, of whom a total of 18 represent geographical districts of the country, six are elected as members at large, three represent the Secretaries Association, one is elected by the faculty, and three are ex officio: the senior alumni member of the Athletic Council, the chairman of the executive committee of the General Association of Alumni, and the secretary of the General Association.
