The night before the Harvard game was the occasion for one of the largest gatherings of '27 men the "Bean Town" has seen in some years. Recent meetings the night before that annual classic have been rather small. Many who have not attended claimed that they could not leave the "little woman" by the fireside alone on that festive evening. Against our better judgment we decided to call their bluffs this year, so planned a mixed party, which was held at the Hofbrau. Much to our surprise and pleasure most of them weren't bluffing at all, for we had some twenty-seven couples, and among them were several we had not seen for some time. Those present included Ed Fowler and wife, up from New Haven, the Bill Spinneys, Bert Gustin and gal, the Dalrymples, the Anglems, the Ray Reeds, Hal Low and bride down from New Hampshire, the Huck Norrises', the Hale Hams, the Gardners, Hardys, Cummings, St. Amants, Prescotts, Burys, Salingers, Rankins, Dean Askew and wife up from New Canaan, Conn., Mike Choukas and wife down from Hanover, Bill Abbott on from Chicago, the Bartletts, Phil Fowlers, Coulters, Hollerans, Josh Davis and wife up from New York, Bill North, and your Secretary and gal, believe it or not. We also had Walt Lashar's brother and his wife as our guests. Walt was busy moving his family from Pennsylvania to New York, where he has recently been transferred, so that he could not get over for the game. It was a grand party. So successful in fact that we are forced to admit that it will undoubtedly become an annual event. Also in Boston that week-end, but not arriving in time for the party, were Al Lagacy and wife, Fritz Kortlucke and wife, and Ken Ballantyne and wife.

Shortly before his trip to Boston, Bill Abbott had ogranized a class dinner in Chicago and brought with him much welcome news from that gathering.

Bed Williams is selling life insurance for the Northwestern Mutual in Chicago, not the Penn Mutual, as stated in our last column.

Mike Choukas informs us that 1927's population in Hanover has been increased by 25%. This increase has been the result of the recent arrival to town of that erstwhile New York journalist, Bill Montgomery, who has undertaken to revamp and revivify that tame and placid weekly, the Hanover Gazette. Mike adds that the other three Hanover members are Curly Sadler, Bob Funkhouser, and himself. We dislike to question the accuracy of statements made by our classmates and particularly those made by a member of the faculty. Nevertheless, it does seem to us that Mike should have said that Bill's arrival represented an increase of thirtythree and one third per cent. Isn't understatement a form of propaganda, Mike?

Bill Auer, the Maiden banker, and his wife Marge announced the arrival of Douglas Bradford Auer not long ago. Douglas is their third youngster.

Within the last few weeks Bob Voorhis and his wife received a double blessing in the form of twin girls.

Saw Ed Fowler in Hanover at the time of the Brown game. He had with him his son, a fine young lad who looked almost big enough to be a member of the freshman class.

Dean Askew and his attractive wife were in Boston for the Harvard game. Dean looked to be in fine fettle, although perhaps a little heavier than you remember him in college. He is in the real estate and insurance business in New Canaan, Conn., and lives at 67 Elm St. in that town.

Dud Bonsai now lives at 4 East 95th St. in New York City. Gordon Smith is still busying himself with the editorial makeup and caricaturing for the Boston SundayPost. Rog Salinger has recently moved to 24 Fredana Rd., Waban. Also living in that town are Bill St. Amant, Gus Cummings, Sykes Hardy, Bob Rose, and your scribe. No doubt that famous little hamlet has the largest percentage of '27 men in relation to its population of any city or town in the country. So what? .
