CLASS OF 1927
NOVEMBER 1927 Doane Arnold

Strange as it may seem, we have not been able to find that Magic Crystal Globe which will tell us at a glance what all the illustrious members of '27 are doing. The summer now being over and the fall well under way, most of the clan must be fairly well settled for this year at least, and I wish to respectfully suggest that the members undertake to let their scribe know of their respective whereabouts. Fortunately we have received several letters with a little news in them and have bumped into several cl.'i -mates in the course of our business here in 1: ;ton. Business consisting of beinggeneral errand boy and what-not for the New Amsterdan Casualty Company. As has been intimated. t:,ere can not be much news in this issue, but if it is insufficient and you don't get that old thrill of seeing your name in print, blame only yourself, and let me have a letter from you before the next issue.

Bill Abbott spent part of the summer taking a banking course at Northwestern University, and the rest playing golf and sailing. At present I believe he is starting work in one of Chicago's larger banks.

Jerry Allis leads the class in scoring the first success after Commencement as far as we know, for on June 29 he was married to Miss Mary Sanford. Congratulations, Jerry, and the best wishes to the bride. Jerry reports that he is now punching the time clock at the Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company.

Dean Askew is in Kansas City, and has just started work there, although we have not been able to find out what sort of work.

Fritz Auer is one of the lucky members who has returned to Hanover. He is taking his last year at the Thayer School.

Bill and Mrs. Auer have been living in Cambridge since the first of July. Bill is working in the credit department of the National Shawmut Bank, and is doing very well.

Ken Ballantyne worked this summer with Kissel, Kinnicutt and Cos., in New York, and is at present another one of the fortunates back in Hanover for second year Tuck.

We have seen Bunny Barde several times in Boston, where he has been attending Harvard Summer School. At present he is training at Kelly and Hayes Gym for some fights in the future.

Charlie Bartlett has just started in at Harvard Law. Haven't seen him to ask how it is going, but I understand the work over there is easy. Charlie went over to Germany this summer with Brick Stone as ordinary seamen on the S. S. Roosevelt, and then both spent a week or so cruising off the Maine coast on Charlie's boat.

A 1 Chabot was seen by your scribe the other day driving down Tremont St., in a smooth looking roadster with Bob Reinhardt sitting beside him. I understand that they are both attending Harvard Law.

Gordon Colby is also among the future bar members at Harvard.

Frank Coulter has been in Europe all summer, and is due home in a week or so. I believe he then plans to start work with Halsey Stuart, investment bankers.

Bill and Mrs. Cusack have returned from their summer in California, and are living at Winter Hill in Somerville. Bill is manager of the Boston office of Fitch Financial Statistics, and is doing very well.

We just had a telephone call from one of our most faithful reporters, Bill Auer, saying that '27 has a delegation at Harvard Law School numbering around twenty. Some of them besides those already mentioned are, Bob Voorhis, Shorty Oliver, Ed Baker, Sam Martin, and Rudy Preuss.

The business school at Harvard is not altogether neglected, with Bill King, Brownie Freeman, Rog Braman, and undoubtedly several others I have not heard of, attending.

We have run into Bill Macaulay several times on the street. He is looking the same as ever, and is working for the Petroleum Heat and Power Company. We also saw Nelson Robinson the other day, and find that he is selling furniture to retailers for the C. F. Streit Manufacturing Company.

Don Megathlin is here in Boston working with the telephone company.

Rog Salinger spent a very enjoyable summer in Europe with Don McCall and Jack Sheldon, and he is now working with Harris Forbes in Boston.

Andy Rankin spent the summer working with the Cosmopolitan Trust Company in Boston, and is now back in Hanover working at the office of the graduate manager of athletics.

George Howell spent most of the summer playing golf around Chicago, and is now at the Northwestern University Law School.

Bill Prescott is at the Halsey Stuart School in Chicago, and is taking a course in bond selling.

Marsh McGough went to Northwestern University Summer School, and I believe has now returned to Hanover for another semester.

Red Griffin is working in Boston at the National Shawmut Bank.

Hank Orth had a novel job this summer selling memberships to a Country Club. He was planning either to return to Tuck School, or to go to the Northwestern Commerce School this fall.

Bill Fryberger was married about the first of September to Miss Katherine O'Brien. Congratulations, Bill. We understand he intends to study law at the University of Virginia.

Bill Macaulay tells us that Red Fryberger is in South America. Rumor has it that he is either looking for a gold mine or working in one.

Bill St. Amant is working here in Boston in the cotton business, and is doing very well.

We had a good letter from Herb Rubin, which was much appreciated. He was working this summer with A 1 Weltv and Ed Fry at Macy's, and is now attending Columbia Law School.

Dinty Gardner is in Philadelphia, working with N. W. Ayer, advertising agency. Bill Elliott and Bob Stevens left about the middle of July for Europe. Bob plans to stay over there about a year, but I imagine Bill has returned by now to assume his teaching duties at Newport, R. I.

Sykes Hardy is with A. T. Ryerson, selling structural steel. His territory is in the vicinity of Boston, and we have seen him on several occasions.

Carl Strouse is working in New York with Rothschilds, learning the bond business. Rumor has it that he makes frequent trips to Philadelphia.

Elwood Smith is a junior optometrist with Lang and Mitchell in Buffalo, N. Y.

Joe Russakoff has been working as a laborer this summer building an apartment, for which he received considerable publicity in the BostonHerald. He was also attending Harvard Summer School. We have not been able to find out what he did in his spare time. We understand that he plans to continue at Harvard this year with graduate work.

We received a very interesting letter from Josh Davis recently with plenty of news in it, but unfortunately we cannot print all of it. Josh was in New York this summer working with Kissel, Kinnicutt, and Company. At present he is in Hanover as a member of the coaching staff, and we are looking forward to seeing him in Boston at the time of the Harvard game. We understand he will resume his efforts with the above firm after the football season is over.

F. E. Brown is working with Harris Forbes in New York.

Sam Wormser is running for some bond house in New York.

Kroggy Krogstad was last seen in New York en route for Winona, where he is going to finish for his degree.

Fritz Kortlucke sailed the first of September for Edinburgh, Scotland, where he is going to take a three year course in medicine.

According to Josh, "Art Keleher is happily married and will soon be police commissioner."

Hooker Horton was in Europe this summer with Sid Hazelton, and is now back in Hanover. We understand that he is helping Sid coach the freshman team.

A 1 Lagacy is working with the Amoskeag. We have not heard where he is located, but saw him this summer in Manchester.

Ted Swanson is the sporting editor of a newspaper in Western New York, which all goes to show that these class prophecies often come true. We understand he spends quite a bit of time attending prize fights, which he feels forced to call "pugilistic encounters."

Ken Meyercord and Bruce McKennan were last heard from some place on the West Coast, where they were trying to get a job on a boat going around the world.

This seems to be about all the news I can gather for this issue, and just let me say again that I am anxious to get a good many letters before the next issue. I promise an answer to every letter received, if that is any incentive for you to write. By the way, we are planning a '27 dinner at the University Club in Boston, within a couple of weeks, and hope that everyone in the vicinity will be present. We suggest that those in other cities get together for a dinner before long. The class movies can be had from Paul Hannah by writing him at Berlin, N. H.
