ON MARCH 3, 1938 the Dartmouth Club of Maine celebrated Dartmouth Night at a supper-meeting held at the Lafayette Hotel, Portland, Maine.

It was voted that flowers or a book should be sent to Harry Haley, of the class of '07, who is laid up as the result of an automobile accident.

It was also voted that an obituary should be put into the records regarding Dr. James A. Spalding '66.

"Dr. James Alfred Spalding died at his home in Portland, Me., February 27, 1938.

"The son of Lyman Dyer and Susan Parker (Parrott) Spalding, he was born in Portsmouth, N. H., August 20, 1846. In college he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi.

"He was for many years one of the editors of the Maine Medical Journal, and was active as lecturer, translator, and medical biographer. He published about a hundred original papers on the eye and ear, two textbooks on eye diseases translated from the German, many public health lectures and medical biographies, and many medical editorials. He was devoted to music and to foreign languages, becoming proficient in a dozen or more languages.

"Despite his deafness, which became nearly total, he was a regular visitor at Commencements at Dartmouth for many years and until the failure of his health, and was keenly interested in everything pertaining to the College."

A vote of thanks was tendered Ted Johnson for his work and ability in teaching the art of skiing to the students of Deering High School during the past year.

Films showing the winter activities at Hanover were shown as part of the entertainment program.

The club officers for the year were elected as follows: president, Paul S. Harmon '13; vice president, Edward L. Robinson '13; secretary and treasurer, Reynolds E. Moulton '35; executive committee, Dr. Thomas Foster '10, Dr. Philip Thompson '02, Fred C. Scribner Jr. '30, Lawrence Day '14, Ernest White '05.
