During the last month the outstanding events have been found in the dormitory baseball leagues. Jim Kilgour '41 of Lord Hall turned in not one but three no-hit performances in pitching his dorm to the play-offs in the dorm baseball matches. His victims were Gile and Russell Sage in the Tuck Drive league and North Mass. in the first round of the play-off. In between these masterpieces was a two-hit game against Streeter Hall, which was won by Lord, 2-1. Lord squeezed through in the North Mass. Game, 1-0, as Dick Grav '4O allowed Lord only one hit but that one a home-run.
In the fraternity leagues, the opening day saw Dean Neidlinger tossing out the first ball for the Intramural Department. "Pudge" must have been troubled with "Deanitis" of the arm, however, as the ball failed to reach home plate. With the opener out of the way, the fraternities proved that the good pitchers were not all in the dorm leagues, popping up with three no-hitters to date. The first came on the second day of the season as Bob Hale of Alpha Delt let down the Psi U's without a bingle. Two weeks later Johnny Townsend beat the Phi Psis without a hit, 5-1. Russ Gorman of Phi Sig was the other no-hit pitcher in beating the Gamma Delts. In addition to these outstanding performances there were many other wellpitched games, with Bob Foley of the Dekes outstanding with three low-hit games to his credit as he pitched the Dekes into the play-offs. Along with the Dekes, the SAEs, Chi Phis, Pi Lambs, Zetes, and Sigma Chis are also in the play-offs which will be well under way when this is published. Going out on a limb, it looks as if the Dekes will be the team to beat, with the Sigma Chis, perennial champs, a close second.
The interfraternity track meet was also run off during the month, with the Alpha Delts running away with it, three firsts giving them an insurmountable lead. Bob White '4O, basketball star, led the way with firsts in the broad and high jumps, to garner the only double in the meet. The Alpha Delt relay team also came in first, with football star Bu Hayden providing a fast anchor finish to cross the line in front.
