SIGNAL RECOGNITION in the art world was recently accorded Dantan Sawyer '33 when a showing of 14 of his paintings was held at the Grace Home Galleries in Boston. Mingled with the majority of New England themes were a few paintings of Guatemalan life.

Mr. Sawyer was active in the arts as a Dartmouth undergraduate and later studied under Bernard Karfiol. In a tribute printed in the descriptive folder of Mr. Sawyer's Boston show, Prof. Churchill P. Lathrop, chairman of the Department of Art at Dartmouth, describes him as "a New Englander in the best and broadest sense of the term," as an artist who "has a cool penetrating Yankee eye and at the same time a New England vision."
