DARTMOUTH COLLEGE FILMS, movie service sponsored by the Secretaries Association and operated by the Public Relations Council of the College, announces an enlarged film rental library of twentyseven subjects covering many phases of Dartmouth life.
A new 400-foot 16 mm. film called EarlySeason Practice shows coaching technique 0£ Coach Blaik's staff, with emphasis on conditioning and training in fundamentals riven the football squad in September practice. Other new 16 mm. pictures include White Water, one reel in color of a Ledyard Canoe Club trip down the turbulent Ammonoosuc River; 1939 Color Carnival, a striking review of the colorful costumes and events of the mid-winter festival in full color; and Skis on Moosilauke, a color reel of activities on the Dartmouth Mountain. Edward T. Chamberlain Jr. '36 and Professor Benfield Pressey have directed production of the new early football practice film, with photography by Adrian Bouchard, staff photographer. With the plan of having a member of each alumni club deliver a running commentary as the film is shown, a printed folder of comment by Coach Chamberlain accompanies this picture. The addition of a sound track to the coaching technique and practice picture is contemplated.
At the request of the Secretaries Association, a special committee, including Osmun Skinner '2B, Arthur L. Gale '27, editor of Movie Makers, and Sidney C. Hayward '26, is engaged in studying the film service of the College. A preliminary report from the committee indicates the need for more topical films. It is felt that the football practice picture and a movie describing the health service of the College, which is now in production, are subjects along the line of the committee's recommendation. At the end of the football season, several new reels containing highlights of major games will be available for alumni club and home shows.
Last year there were about 300 showings of movies produced and distributed by Dartmouth College Films.
