The Night Before the Harvard Game dinner was held at the Boston City Club and was featured by the presence of Omar Swenson of Concord, N. H., Harold King of Washington, Clayton Erwin of Ludlow, Vt., Ray Brown of New York City and John McElroy of Albany. The more local attendants were Bucky Bates, M. R. Brown, Ned Burbeck, Arthur Hanlon, Ned Kenerson, Charlie Luce, Preston Howard, Orvil Smith, Harry Watson and Prexie Whelden.
Still another feature, not entirely unsung, was the presence of seven of the members of the Grandfathers' Club in spite of the inclement weather prevailing. Yes, Sir, seven of the fifteen present were grandfathers and proud of it—Herbert Nelson Bates, John Hale McElroy, Edward H. Kenerson, Arthur E. Hanlon, Omar Swenson, Preston W. Howard and Clayton L. Erwin.
"THE COMMANDER" DINNER
Following the superb playing of the Dartmouth team a family dinner was held at the Hotel Commander, Cambridge, where we seem to have found an ideal spot for this annual feature. Again the unexpected happened increasing the pleasure of the company immeasureably— the presence of Gen'l. Jackson of Washington, D. C. and Fred Baker of Lancaster, N. H. The sudden change from the awe inspiring Grandfathers' Club feature of the night before to the bachelors' evident popularity with ladies increased the pleasure momentum of the group and refleeted rays of credit over the committee on arrangements.
It was a fine occasion and here the men of the class pay tribute to the wives of whom no class can boast a more enthusiastic group. Those present were: Fred Baker, M. R. Brown, Ray Brown, Hamlin and Mary Bennett, Clayton Erwin, Arthur Hanlon, Preston and Jane Howard, Andrew Jackson, Ned and Charlotte Kenerson, Harold and Edith King, Charles and Edith Luce, Isabelle Luce, Orvil and Amy Smith, Harry and Edith Watson, and Ned and Edith Burbeck.
M. R. and Helen Brown have just announced the engagement of their daughter, Barbara, to Frederic R. Harwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Harwood of Springfield, Ohio.
Edward H. Hall, younger son of Rev. and Mrs. Charles Taber Hall of Arlington, Mass. was married, October is, 1939, to Miss Barbara Greene of Weston, Mass.
Russell and Mrs. Erwin of Montpelier, Vt., son of Clayton and Cora Erwin, are the proud parents of a future Dartmouth boy, just five weeks old.
Preston and Jane Howard announce the arrival of a grandson, George Howard Mac Duff of Mitchel Field, N. Y. on Sept. 22nd. Rhoda, Mrs. Francis H. MacDuff, will be remembered as a regular attendant at '03 reunions and parties in former years.
