EDGAR STEWARD DRIVER is headed for Dartmouth Son of our own amiable Harry and named after Ted Steward, he is doing a fine job in high school To quote Karl Marker, "Mrs. Harry Driver and son, Ted, were in to see me Saturday morning. He is a senior at Perry High School and president of the National Honorary Society for P.H.S., a distinct honor in itself, carrying about an A plus average. He is a fine, clean-cut lad, and is applying for entrance at Dartmouth this next fall. He is sure to succeed. I know that we all will want to follow him.". . . . 1910 still has a long list of sons to follow in the footsteps of their dads, and of course, we can always look forward to young JOHNNY HOBBS who will be a freshman when Father John and his classmates will be in the 70's. Then, too, Tenners can emulate virile RED LOUDON of the w.k. class of 1914, who celebrated Nov. 7 by presenting to the world 7 lbs., 4 ozs. "Dorothy Ann".... which said event resulted in the net loss of a good red-headed end for some future Dartmouth team.

SHORTY STERN, tennis demon of three decades ago, lives at 179 E. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago We hear that the great New England Hurricane of last fall hit Fielder Jones' property for a substantial loss Not much other news has trickled through We escaped with a down-chimney, 4 broken rafters, a few nice trees flopped, plus a complete shingling job ... at last reports some of those cedar shingles were in vicinity of the North Pole.

. . .We ran across the SKIING BANKARTS in Hanover yesterday, up for the holidays at the Inn Father Larry, Mother Miriam, two dam attractive daughters in Deborah and Betsy Believe it or not, all take the hills with skill and abandon P.S. Don't be surprised if Sir Lawrence finds, in his present searching, the location for a new home in or around Hanover. Picking up the N. Y. Sun not long ago we read in George Trevor's column, "Coach Bankart, a perfectionist of the Harlow type, found a ready-made pilot in sophomore Huntington and proceeded to build the machine-like Colgate teams which beat Yale in 1913 and 1916".

A CHRISTMAS CARD from "Berkeley, California" shows comely Mrs. C. (C for comely and Chauncey) Baxter; Beau Brummellish Winsor Wilkinson; Mr. C. Baxter, who looks too broad midships to ever negotiate a mile in any manner afoot... according to all reports, Wilk and Mrs. Wilk were perfect in their capacity of host and hostess.

JACK DINGLE is doing a first-class job as president of Chicago Alumni Ass'n

We hear that such dignitaries as Lew Williams, Mac Kendall, Paul Albert, Dick Hursh, et cet., gather at the weekly luncheons and have protracted "bull-fests" with Howard Fogg acting as interlocutor, impressario Jack Cowan and Jud Lyon are on the Green Key Prom Committee. . . . Nate Sherman lives on the old family homestead at Plympton, Mass., sells Fords to help support his 50 head of Fancy Purebred Guernseys, has Dartmouth freshman son, Nate Jr Babe Steward's address is Box 216, Lisbon, La., where he deals in ready-mixed concrete.

JOHN BOWLER The writing of these items was stopped while your Secretary acted as a bearer at the funeral of our fine friend, Dr. John W. Bowler We'll let more capable hands write his obituaries, but because we knew him long and well, and carried a very deep respect for both the man himself and what he accomplished in his lifetime, we want to say that never have we seen more sincerity, more enthusiasm, more down-deep belief in his work than was shown by Dr. Bowler He was a grand fellow, and the more you knew him, the better you liked him Not long before his passing we met him on the street in Hanover for one of our customary chats Never effusive but always giving the feeling that he was really glad to see you, you left with an increased admiration for the man Over 70, flawlessly groomed, erect in body carria, feet well lilted in walking, he was a delight to see, and you fellows who have seen little of him in the last two or three decades would marvel at the comparatively small physical change.... he was just as active mentally, too. . . we've known of his brushing up medical studies within the last two years, just because he wanted to know more about the practice of medicine in general. . . We'll miss John Bowler, but many fine memories of visits, his accomplishments, his friendship, and his unusual devotion to a cause will serve as inspiration for years to come.

FOOTBALL'S RAMIFICATIONS go far In late fall a professor of psychology at Bryn Mawr (obviously a Dartmouth supporter) told his class, which included arch-Dartmoutliite, Nancy Norton, that he was no better man then than last summer, but the fact that Dartmouth had beaten Harvard, Yale, and Princeton nevertheless added to his personality Thousands of ex-Hanoverians check, and double-check!

THE XMAS CARD sent out by Thayer and Dorothy Smith is one of the finest to come within our eyesight in many a moon. .... A homemade portrayal of the manger scene with each character filled by one of their nine children in costume.... the Mother Mary with the child Jesus in her lap; the angel at a higher level; the cherubs; a shepherd dog and a small lamb; the manger; the hayloft; even three white doves; all very ingeniously done with much credit to the whole Smith family.

EDUCATOR DR. ROLLO REYN-OLDS dips into his own past for Xmas Card material but as you all can guess, not back to his Shurtleff House daze 1919 is the year of the "family group" with shirtsleeved, rakish-hatted Papa Rollo as rear support of the human stepladder; Mother Alice, who has looked like her husband's daughter for the past two decades, shows "that slender waist line" to quote our classmate; then the three children, two of whom are now Dartmouth graduates, Robert '34, George '38, the latter being with broadcasting studio, WHCY, and dau. Elizabeth, a student at Oberlin. . . a card full of personal interest The 01' Maestro, by the way, broadcasts an educational program on WJZ each Thursday at 2 P.M Coincidentally, this week's mail brings this correction that the class will be glad to accept, "Since he (Walt) and Rollie Reynolds aided by Ed Raabe put over 'King of Ukan' for a respectable profit. Well, good old Ed was guilty of enough without that. And I don't remember that the firm of Reynolds, Golde, & Libbey gave a damn how respectable the profit was. Sic transit gloria mundi!.... likewise Tues. and Wed. as 'Tattlado' might have said. Yours, Lib.".... One of those guys ought to write an edition of "Now, It Can Be Told".

ED KEITH sends one up from Puerto Rico with this message, which we are passing along to the class, "Sorry to not have seen you this year. I took in three games but didn't see anyone I knew. Am still sore at myself for not seeing the Yale game. All I ever saw there came out even. Don't forget that you and the senora have an invitation to visit Central Aguirre. I am not sure how much longer we may stay here. We may have to move to Cuba.".... Maurice Blake sends an attractive picture of France's "Lac du Borget", while Lennie McClintock, that same interesting character with heart as big as that of an ox, pens a nice message in longhand Thanks to that old '09 ball-heaver, Jim Driscoll, who has been a complete teetotaler for some 50 yrs. or more, we're smoking a box of those famous N. H.-Made 7-20-4 cigars, and they're darn good, right fresh from the factory Some day Jim and I are going to organize a club, and unless Walt Norton, the Plugger, falls off the wagon, we may let him in Might vote on Tommie Leonard, too and thanks to you all for the many friendly greetings Looking through the selection caused us to think how wonderfully fine it would be if we all could have about a month together again, all by ourselves and our families.... but that is something not to be in this world, so we better appreciate what contacts we do have, not the least of which is the ALUMNI MAGAZINE that goes forth to each member of the class 9 times per year, and has been doing so for some 9 consecutiveyears, a custom that about 40 Dartmouth classes have adopted this current year Dartmouth's alumni class notes are generally considered the best of their kind in America.
