George Foster '28, former regional supervisor for the WPA Music Program in New England and New York, has been appointed Deputy Director of the program with headquarters in Washington. He has been connected with the Federal music project since its beginning under CWA in
1934. Mr. Foster was born in Plymouth, N. H., and after leaving Dartmouth went to the Eastman School of Music. He has conducted WPA orchestras and bands throughout New Eng- land. As a composer he is known for his "Two American Fiddle Tunes" for string orchestra. He has also made transcriptions for the modern symphonic band. He has recently moved his family from Wollaston, Mass., to Washington.
