AFTER NEARLY A YEAR OF discussions between the Zeta Psi Alumni Association and deans in the office of residential life, an agreement has been reached to re-recognize Zete as a Greek house in 2009 (the fraternity was Derecognized in 2001 after publishing rape techniques in a house newsletter). Members have vacated the house on Webster Avenue under instructions not to meet as a group. By 2009 the house must be brought up to building code either by renovation or rebuilding.

"The College insisted on a dark period, which we thought was both unnecessary and unjustified," says T. Clark Weymouth '79, president of the Zeta Psi Alumni Association. "But that was going to be a requirement, so we acceded to the Colleges position."

Current brothers, while pleased that their fraternity will be re-recognized, say they'll miss fraternity life. "Obviously people are unhappy, but we realized that it wasn't productive to get into a big argument with the alumni," says Alex Friedman '08.

Once the three-year dark period ends, Zete alums, working with representatives from the fraternity's national headquarters, will conduct 2009 rush. "I think I'll certainly get a lot of satisfaction in being able to come back and help restart the chapter," says Friedman.
