The Secretary's sincere appreciation to those classmates who have responded so promptly to his appeal for class dues. The same degree of appreciation is expressed in advance to those who come through before (or after) this reminder meets their eyes!
A most welcome visitor to New England and to the Secretary's office was Bill Jennings from La Jolla, California. Bill is in excellent health and spirits, had enjoyed renewing many New England friendships and is now back in California.
Sam Barnes reports the recent marriage of his younger daughter to an Amherst graduate. The young couple are living in Philadelphia.
A complete list of 1907 sons in the entering class of '44 is not yet available but we know that Ed Barker's son, Craig, is a Freshman and we hear that Tod Plummer's boy is also in the entering class. [The complete list appears elsewhere in this issue Ed.]
Doc Foley of Alpena, Michigan, writes "Will see you at the Columbia game." His son, Dick Foley, is said to be the only candidate of four ranking Freshman guards of last fall reporting to the Varsity Squad.
Phil Chase has "some movie films of the last two reunions which might be worth showing at our 1942 Reunion."—Phil's offer has already been accepted.
A welcome message from Warren Billings, Rome, N. Y., reports "I have three sons: one an engineer in a government aeronautical laboratory and another trying to complete his college course."—We hope to learn about the third son in due course.
Our engineer classmate, Harold Parker, has recently become New England representative of the Ultimite Paving Block Corporation of America with headquarters at 10 State Street, Boston. This interesting and promising connection follows a service of six years with the WPA as staff engineer in the State Administrative office. Harold's new connection is engaged in the manufacture of a patented granite faced paving block and curb stone and his firm has made several installations in and near Boston. Harold reports further that he moved from Weston to Egypt, Mass. in 1939, that his younger daughter, Nancy, is a junior in the Scituate High School, that his older daughter, Virginia, graduated from the University of New Hampshire and is now a laboratory technician at the Palmer Memorial Hospital in Boston. During Harold's connection with the WPA administration, he was associated with George Grebenstein who has also been connected with WPA for several years.
Hermon Hill, who lives in Washington, D. C., confirms Sam Barnes' report of the wedding in Sam's family. Hermon was in Seattle in August, called on Sam and found him in the midst of preparation for his daughter's wedding.
"I am plodding along here," says Joe Coburn, "as Labor & Industries editor and City Staff reporter on the Lynn, Mass. DAILY EVENING ITEM where I have been for more than a 6 years. My avocation is retained interest in military affairs. I have continued to hold my captain's commission as a Military Intelligence Reserve Officer, U. S. A. I was recently placed on the inactive list but there is still at least a bare chance of an early call into active service."
The Heneage family of Hanover, N. H. is always good for a note or two. Son John, a graduate of 1940, has just started his business career in the office of the Esso Company in Boston. Bob, Rip's second son, has engaged in insurance business since his graduation, has recently established himself in that business in Hanover, and has announced his marriage to a young lady from Hartford, Conn.
