THE WORK OF ABNER DEAN (Epstein) '31, whose fame as a cartoonist has been growing steadily ever since he first broke into print as art editor of Jack-o-Lantern, is now appearing daily in almost a hundred newspapers from coast to coast. United Feature Syndicate is the distributor of his feature, dubbed by him, "Funny Side Up."

Abner's newspaper panels are oneacters, according to him, and range from slapstick to the subtle. Anyway, he confesses to feeling like a stage director every time he sits down to his drawing board to put plot, setting, actors, action and lines into a "Funny Side Up."

His "job" with UFS is his first since leaving College but he has not been loafing. Readers of Esquire, Collier's, the New Yorker, College Humor, and a lot of other magazines are familiar with his cartoons.

Tennis, clay sculpture, writing song lyrics and light verse, acting in amateur shows, and inventing "idea" gadgets occupy his time when he isn't at work. Sculpture, which started him in cartooning, is still his first love.
