WITH ARCHIE AND J GILE leading citizens of Hanover, active in the affairs of the town and College, and with their two sisters equally popular members of the community, the Gile family scarcely needs an introduction to Dartmouth men. "Old Dr." Gile had his host of friends and admirers among several generations of Dartmouth students. "Like Father, Lib Son" is a revealing title of the excellent biographical profile of Dr. J Gile written by Peter Cardozo '39, of the department of English, and published in this issue.
J Gile says he has no identity. He used to be "Doc Gile's boy" and now he is the "father of Jack or Amos." Both descriptions carry distinction, and are something to be proud of. Officially, J Gile is a lot of things including being one of the five life trustees of the College. Personally, he is even more and it is with the human side of this branch of the famous family that the story in these pages this month is concerned.
