H is the HEART that beats strong in Pate At a rate of about one thousand and eight. I is INERTIA, a thing that's unknown To the subject and hero of this little pome! J stands for JOKES, both new and mature, Which Patey has used as a customer lure. K is for KINDNESS, of which the supply Has always been endless for lowly and high. L is the LOVE for all fellowmen Shown by his actions again and again. M is the MURDEROUS Back-Slap and Shove With which Mr. Patey expresses his love. N is for NEWTON, a city elect Where Patey has lived in a way circumspect. O's the old OIL, with which people say Patey can rub folks in just the right way. P is for POULTRY, which Pate grows with glory And also for PAPER which prints the whole story. Q is for QUICK, and Patey is that He's here and he's there at the drop of a hat. R is for RIGHTEOUS. We're glad he's that too. He's been an example for me and for you. S is the SUNDAY SCHOOL Patey has taught. Directing exemplary action and thought. T is for TEACHERS who listen to Patey And then buy Ginn books after arguments weighty. U is for UNCTION. I don't know it, do you? But Patey's got everything, so he must have that too. V is for VIGOR. Great guns, what a storel It simply oozes from every last pore! W is WILLINGNESS to work and to fight For the good of humanity morning and night. X is for XANTHIC, which we know Patey ain't. Xanthic means yellow, a color of paint. Y is for YOUTH, preserved at its best For sixty-five years, with cleanness and ZEST!
