Mansfield for a few days of skiing Mark Allen apparently has a new residence address at 5028 18th Ave., North East, Seattle, Washington Lyme Armes writes that Don Augur, one of 1912's distinguished advertising writers and, incidentally, the first man ever elected to the editorial staff of the Jack-o-Lantern by its founders, has again achieved rare literary distinction, and probably does't even know it yet. After 148 years, Don has "made" the Old Farmer's Almanac. No. 3, Huntington, L. 1., New York Jim English has been made head of the Romance Language Department of Grove City College, a co-ed college of 900 students in Grove City, Pennsylvania Judge Jim Erwin was jubilee speaker at the Y. M. C. A. dinner at South Orange, New Jersey, on January a 2..... Chip Farrington says there are a few signs of better business in Philadelphia. He wishes we could have an old-fashioned sing like the 25th Alvie Garcia was gravitating between Chicago, Staten Island and the Tampa factory. He says, "Ask Gertrude, she knows."
The Secretary has a letter from Georgie Geiser, from whom there was no letter in the Class Book. Georgie is a practicing attorney at Easton, Pennsylvania, and lives at 2446 Butler Street. Nancy will be 20 in March, and Elizabeth 15 in April, but Elizabeth is taking some of her Freshman year course at Wilson High in bed with the mumps. Nancy is at Mac Murray College for women in Jacksonville, Illinois. Peggy, the better half, is still a pretty redhead, and when all the girls line up together, they're beautiful sisters. Georgie says that when he takes a golf stick in his hands, it's a spade, a rake or a four foot saw, and one of the girls is on the other end. The budget is balanced, and they are treading the path with heads up and chins in.
Effect on Literature
Syd Clark has returned from South America, and is again to be reached at Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts. He is driving ahead on all cylinders to complete a newbook on Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay for spring publication. This will be his twenty fourth volume, twenty of which were shot up by the war. He was in Finland all last summer preparing a book as he says, "for the cold storage shelf."
Boss Geller attended the Dartmouth Carnival with his son Bill, and paid a visit to his oldest son, Frederick S., Dartmouth '43 Get out your Aegis and note that the pictures over the names Fred P. Goodrich and Claude M. Goodrich are exchanged. "Good" Goodrich is Fred P., and he is with Clinton Gilbert & Cos., tao Broadway, New York City Chub and Alice Hitchcock's son, Jr., who was born February 15, 1917, and graduated from Dartmouth in '38 and from Thayer School of Engineering in '39, is now working in Harrisburg, Pa. Chub Jr. was also a TriKap Bud Hoban is living in New London, N. H., two miles from town, and has a swell time skating and running the New London Civic Association. There are only two of them in the winter, but in summer they have 40 girls and go boys in their two summer camps Mike (E. G.) Home is General Agent for Columbian National Life Insurance Cos. of Boston at 301 Chamber of Commerce Bldg., Indianapolis, Ind., where he has the agency for the state. He has a picture of Boss Geller eating stolen chicken in Pike Childs' room which he agrees to send Boss if he will publish it Roscoe Leach writes from 14445 Kent Street, Detroit, Michigan, and gives his business address as Banker s Trust Cos., 211 W. Congress Street, Detroit. He says he has a fine family, and at last in good health.
Among the welcome cards was one from Bill Locke, who says that all seeking real Florida sunshine should go to Hollywood, the northern suburb of Miami Beach, with all the charm and advantage of Miami, but away from the crowds and confusion, with better bathing, golfing and fishing. At any rate, Bill wants anyone passing through to stop and say Hello. You will find him at Hollywood Homes, 1943 Hollywood Blvd Eddie Luitwieler attended the Congress of American Industry in New York in December, where he served as a member of the Resolutions Committee, instrumental in revising the Platform for American Industry into the final draft presented at the meeting For a little over a year, Barrow Lyons has been connected with the Monopoly Study conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission, cooperating with the Temporary National Economic Committee in Washington. The study will soon come to an end, and Barrow expects to write a book about it A1 (A. R.) Miller is working for the U. S. Treasury Department, with address at 16 Canterbury Street, Andover, Mass. His health is good, and he weighs 222 pounds. A1 Jr., Dartmouth '42 has just been appointed Assistant Manager of Lacross at Dartmouth. A 1 attends all the Dartmouth football games, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell and Stanford. He has another son, but the Secretary hasn't his name..... Click Morrill is business adviser to some 25 firms, and says that he has moments when guessing the answers is really guessing.
Hi O'Neill is publisher of the only oil well drilling report in Illinois, a twiceweekly confidential report of all of the development news in Illinois—now the fourth state in oil in the United States. Its headquarters are in Effingham, and he has a staff of seven employees. If any of the boys want the low down on Illinois oil, he has it all the time. He has not seen a '12 man since 1927, and he and Dorothy and Dorothy Jr. would like to see some coming through Effingham.
Doc (A. J. 3rd) Phelps spent last summer in New Hampshire on his farm. He visited Gill Frost at Hanover, and recalled the old days, but on his return home, he caught streptococcic infection followed by myocarditis and oedema. He is better, but still having his troubles, and lost some time from his school Dick Plumer has a new address at Newark Athletic Club, 16 Park Place, Newark, N. J. He attended the Dartmouth-Stanford with A1 (Alfred L.) Smith, who was in New York on business from Elkhart, Indiana. Buster Sawyer is superintendent of schools in Union No. 39, which includes the towns of Erving, Leverett, Shutesbury and Wendell. Millers Falls, Mass., lies in this district Shrig Shrigley writes that he never expected to see his son defending the Harvard goal posts after the Dartmouth game, but such was the case. The defense lost, the posts came down, and Wilfred R. Jr. lost a hat. However, Shrig won $35 on the game and got him a new one.
