NEWEST AMONG THE COLLEGE'S many alumni associations throughout the country is the Dartmouth Club of Houston, Texas, which came into being at a meeting held in the largest city of the country's biggest state on Wednesday evening, March 6. Eighteen of the alumni who live in Houston, the wives of six of them, attended the dinner session at the College Inn, which brought about the new association.

Those who responded to the call of the committee for the initial gathering of the Dartmouth men in the Texas oil capital were: Edward C. Sturgis '91, Henry M. Lull '97 and Mrs. Lull, Harrison L. Nichols '98, Ralph L. Libby '05, Dwight J. Edson '18 and Mrs. Edson, Ray W. Smith '18 and Mrs. Smith, Clarence W. Sanders '22 and Mrs. Sanders, Earl E. Krogstad '27, Gaylord Fauntleroy '28 and Mrs. Fauntleroy, B. Wendell Phillips '28, Charles J. Robertson '28 and Mrs. Robertson, Ellis W. Gilbert '30, T. Paul Maguire '30, Arthur S. Lull '31, Ben R. Barbee '33, Jesse Mcl. Carter '34, John J. Bell '35, and George D. Jacobs Jr. '39.

Dwight Edson, Ray Smith, and Clarence Sanders made up the committee which staged the get-together and set the date to coincide with a brief visit to Houston by C. G. Milham '06, alumni councillor of the Southern District, and Mrs. Milham.

After each of the alumni present had introduced himself with word of his class, his native state, and his Houston connection (Harrison Nichols, making a great hit with a few reminiscences of the Dartmouth of his day and of President William Jewett Tucker), the visiting alumni councillor was asked to act as temporary chairman and discuss the possibilities of an alumni organization in Houston.

It was pointed out that Houston had recently sent several fine boys to Hanover but many more fine candidates were required from Texas if that state were to do its full share in increasing the southern delegation among the undergraduates and that one active association could do much to secure this result. It was also emphasized that, in the formation of a group that met regularly, the alumni in Houston would experience not only a direct satisfaction in the renewing of old contacts but would as well put themselves into a position where they would be directly tied in with the College, with benefit alike to it and to themselves. When the question of forming a permanent organization was put, the answering affirmative vote was unanimous.

Officers were then elected as follows: President, Ray Smith '18; secretary, Dwight J. Edson ' 18; treasurer, Clarence Sanders 'as. These three were also named as the club's executive committee, with authority to fix on dates and frequencies of further gatherings. The new association plans to hold either weekly or monthly meetings throughout the year. Announcement of the days selected will be made in an early issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Meanwhile, all alumni who may chance to visit Houston are urged to contact Dwight Edson, secretary, Room 1507, Esperson Bldg. They will be warmly welcomed and a meeting of the alumni in Houston to greet them will be arranged.

One of the features of the March 6th session was a showing of three reels of Dartmouth movies, the first glimpse of the active college that many of those present had seen in many years.
