Tom Barnes, for twenty-six years principal of Lincoln School in East Orange, N. J., recently resigned from that position. His work in the school has been praised in the highest terms, and his resignation referred to as a distinct loss to the city where he has taught. Not all of us realized that Tom originally came from Florida, where he was born. His activities in East Orange are referred to by the newspaper of that place as reading "like the City's roster of clubs." The first unit in New Jersey of the Young Republican group was organized in Lincoln School with Tom as adviser. He was also for a time chairman of the Character Building Group of the Council of Social Agencies of the Oranges and was actively interested in many other causes for the welfare of youth. Along religious lines he had served as president of the Presbyterian Church Men's Club and superintendent of the Sunday School of his church. He had also been president of the Elementary Principal's Association in the State of New Jersey. Through his efforts Lincoln School has an excellent Adult Night School of several hundred students.
Surely after these active and useful years Tom deserves a well earned rest. He and Mrs. Barnes hope to spend their years of retirement in New Jersey, Maine and Florida. May the years be many and happy ones.
