Green Derby Standings in 1940 Fund Contests
The figures below show the standings on May 18 of the classes from 1898 to 1939 in the four Green Derby contests which are being conducted as a competitive stimulus in the 1940 Alumni Fund campaign. The Green Derby standings, figured weekly on the basis of the combined per cent of graduates contributing and per cent of objective attained, provide the most significant summary of all-round accomplishment by the classes. By striking a balance between amount contributed and number of contributors, the Green Derby rankings place a premium on broad participation by a class and offset the good showing due primarily to a few large gifts.
The classes have been divided into four groups this year instead of the three which were used last year. The 1939 winners were 1901 in the group from 1898 to 1909, 1918 in the group from 1910 to 1922, and 1926 in the group from 1923 to 1938. The Class of 1919, operating on a special class plan, will not be included in the 1940 Green Derby standings until the end of the campaign.
