Gail Borden '26 is reported by Editor if Publisher to have swapped his job as managing editor of the Chicago Times for that of Captain in the U.S. Air Corps. Having recently won his "wings," Captain Borden took to the air as a pilot in the Air Corps' engineering section at Wright Field, Dayton, around October 15. In September he flew to England to observe and write articles concerning British defense measures before cleaning the copy off the spikes on his desk in Chicago. Members of the Times editorial staff patted their "big boss" goodbye with a pilot's wristwatch at a farewell party.

Captain Borden, whose early attempts at flying were almost his last when he crashed trying an Immelmann turn from the ground a few years ago, taught Shakespeare at the University of Chicago before going into the newspaper business. He joined the Times staff in 1929 as dramatic critic and later tried his hand as columnist and roving reporter with the world as his oyster, until made managing editor in 1939.
