AN EVEN HALF HUNDRED Alumni turned out on April 5 to greet Sid Hayward '26, Secretary of the College and the official representative at our Annual Dinner and election of officers held at the University Club. The good crowd, the excellent speaker and the Danny Nirella's music made for a friendly, enjoyable evening. New officers assuming positions of responsibility for the new year are as follows: Joe Egolf '25, President; P. S. Kier '29, Ist Vice President; A. N. Burnie '06, 2d Vice President; Ralph Thomas '26, Treasurer; Bill Lang '33, Secretary.
Of special interest, Shirley Austin '24, retiring president, announced the establishment of a permanent trophy at the Shadyside Academy, local preparatory school. This is one further step in the creation of further interest in things Dartmouth in this area and has met with an enthusiastic response by the Shadyside faculty and students. Formal presentation of the trophy was made to the school on May 3. The award is to be given to that member of the senior class who, in the opinion of his classmates and coaches has displayed the finest spirit of sportsmanship on the athletic field.
The next affair scheduled by the entertainment committee is the annual picnic to be held at Wyoming Grove in the North Park on Saturday, June 29. Although we had formerly invited wives and friends, action by ballot at the annual meeting rules out the fair sex. This suggests a noon to "out of beer" ball game as there will be no voices raised at the 6 o'clock dinner bell. Undergraduates are especially invited and will be warmly welcomed by the bachelors to supplement their diminished ranks.
We regret to report the recent deaths of two of our older and active alumni: G. H. Child '77 of Harpers Ferry, W. Va. and Rev. R. D. Brown '98 of Pittsburgh.
