It seems like the more of these articles that I scratch out, the cornier they get. This is a great state for corn, anyway, so I'm in my element. Spent part of New Year's Eve at the New York Dartmouth Club with Mattimore, Jughead Thomas and Muff Davis. Saw Bill Wischmann there and numerous others from neighbor classes. It was pretty chaotic, particularly since Davis was sober, and Jughead spent most of his time in a corner trying to blow a balloon, a horn, and clink a couple of castinets all at once, while Matty did a wild version of the mazurka. Same day had lunch with Matty, Mays, Gorman, Schaeffer, Van Bomel and Ivirby. The young married set were all set for a progressive dinner, and there was a lot of household chit-chat. On the way back here, saw Lloyd Williams at the Dayton airport, where he's a passenger agent for TWA. Speaking of airports, I hope you noticed the activity of Don Boyle, Bob Kelley, and Ev Wood as told in last month's issue. Van Kirk has joined the army, and that's saying a lot for the little colonel. I may be there soon myself.
This is the month for babies, though. Barbara Whitman, born to Stew and Julie on November 30th. Stephen Robert MacKinnon, born to Cy and Wig on December 2d. John Rust Potter Jr., bora to Ann and Brue on December 8th. Our best wishes go to them all and we wish them the virtues of their parents.
There's no cessation to the engagements and marriages, and I wonder how long we'll be able to hold out. Gertrude Stanwood Flitner of Englewood is engaged to Pete Talbot, who's now at the Long Island College of Medicine. Also engaged are Vivian Marie Jehle, Barnard and Columbia, and Sereno Sheldon. November 30th was the marriage date for Jessie Ames Marshall and Ben Williams. She's from Vassar and Radcliffe, and is a sister of Johnny McLane's wife. Chet Emerson was married December 27th to Mary Nason Loring, of Newton. Congratulations to you all.
Stan Woods has joined the Air Corps, Fran Worcester the Naval Reserve. Same goes for Jim McKeon. There will be more of these. As for some details that were lacking on past marriages, Brue Potter, Jack Reichardt, and Ham Mitchell were ushers in Bud Wright's wedding. Pat Gorman was one in Schaeffer's. Gil Tanis was in Gus Southworth's in addition to the others named last month. Ralph Sethness was in Bob Reeve's. Lew Moorman is with the Legal Dept. of the Reconstruction Finance Corp. in Washington. A lWolff is a teacher at the Park School in Baltimore. Jim Blake is at the Adirondack-Florida School in Onchiota, N. Y. Dan Marshall is in Company B at Quantico. Walt Dodd writes that he's been a credit investigator with Dun and Bradstreet in Boston since early in '39. Reports his marriage to Katherine McCall, Katie Gibbs. Reports Art Stone in some branch of the army, and would like to hear from Gayer. While this is going to press, the New York group is having their January 17th dance at the Dartmouth Club, and more about that in my next. I can't remember how many were at the last one, but it was so many that I didn't believe it. Don't forget the second Thursday of each month for the Boston get-togethers. Saw Val Cravens the other day, and from the way he directs activities at the Gunnison Housing Corp. in New Albany, it looks as if the kid had no mean job. Whoops, forgot to mention that Here Brandis was at the Dartmouth Club New Year's Eve, and with a very attractive young lady, who goes by the name of Bundles, which led to much conjecture, and not much decision. Here is with National Broadcasting. The news isn't too rare from here on, so we can start off early with the usual postscript listing.
