This column is indebted to the Pace Setter for a lot of the news this month, so here goes.
Fred Wagner, after five months' duty as a 2d class seaman aboard the USS Holly, is at Notre Dame, preparing for his V-7, probably aboard the Prairie State. He spent his liberty at Lyme, and saw enough of New Hampshire to make us all wish we were back there. Dick Farrington is an accountant for DuPont in Wilmington, and living in Fort Washington, Pa. Roge Buffinton is doing a little bit of everything at the United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Boston, and says the most important thing he's done since graduation is to marry Barbara Knight on April 25th. Al Pettoruto is a lawyer in Lawrence, Mass. Says Bob Jones is an ensign, stationed in the Canal Zone, and Mike Sullivan is at O. C. S. at Fort Sill. Clem Sandresky is at Fort Bragg in Headquarters of the Ist Battalion of the F.A.R.C., and doing some concert and radio piano playing. John Stein, the man who said he would never get married (how many times have I heard that), is still happily married to ex Kay Howard, and doing retail chain store administration for Wormser Hat Stores, New York. Marylen Small writes that husband Ist Lieut. Gil has left the Marine base at New River for places unknown. They were married Feb. 28. George Kingsbury has gotten his commission at Fort Sill, and to date his assignment is still unannounced. Bud Jova is an ensign. Phil Harty, still the hearty salesman for Exolon Cos., says wife and he are expecting a rather noisy and expensive Christmas present. Same goes for Sandy Mills. Sandy just went to New York to see his old friends of the theatre, and probably to steal some more hotel towels. Jim Sutcliffe, who was married to Marion Shea last August, is a foreman at a defense plant near Norfolk Downs. Lt. (j.g.) Bob Southworth is with the Amphibian Force of the Atlantic Fleet. Lt. Pate Barnet is on the staff of the Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Ground, writing technical manuals and texts. Fred Baker got his commission there. Paul Feakins gives The Bowery as a business address. He's seaman 2nd class V-5, awaiting Frank Knox's pleasure for active duty. Says Mallory is switching from deck to flying. Bill Roby finished his V-7 course at Prairie State last month.
If this hasn't been mentioned before, this column hides its head in shame, but the Gus Southworths announce the arrival of Barbara Twining, 6 pounds, 14 ounces, on May 5. Charlie Keyes, and Mattimore, the two men who have tried hardest to get into the Navy, look like they've finally made it. Al Boerker is at Scott Field, Ill., learning to be a communications officer. After Chuck Wiggin got his commission in the Air Force, he's been taking some advanced training at Lowry Field, Denver. Parker Brownell gets the prize for the longest letter. He and wife Barbara are in "Washington where he's an attorney in the Dept. of Justice. Says Fran Belcher's third is expected this summer. I think it still leaves Johnny McLane out in front, though. Johnny Emerson, to whom Boston will -forever be indebted for leaving, is in Ordnance at Aberdeen. Bill Fasolo passed his New Jersey bar exams, and is practising in Hackensack. Coke Barton, to whom Boston will also forever be indebted for getting the class reunions outside of the city, is with the Back Bay Electrotype and Engraving Cos. Gabriel Aloisie is operating three or four taverns in and around Boston, and for those who can make it, the "Paddock" is one of them. Bill Lyle made the Navy, but apparently what he's doing will have to remain a Naval secret for the duration. Ensign Slattery is still with the office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington. Last news of Harry Connor had him as battalion adjutant, but chances are that both he and Tom Richmond are now captains, Marine Corps. Art Van Kirk is now 2nd Lieut., Military Intelligence, stationed in Chicago. Fud Mather is at Fort Sam Houston, Bill Collins is at Camp Polk, and Larry King is at Mitchell Field, N. Y. Walt McKinnon is at Camp Barkley, Texas, and Bill Watson is a Lieut, in U.S.N.R. Larry Symmes is at Forth Monmouth.
This column must be monotonous as Hades, with nothing but simple declarative sentences, confined to words of one syllable or less, but there's a lot of news, and not much space to tell it in, so bear with me until we're decimated by old age, and when that time comes, we can go into all the gory details of our household travails. Art King is a draftsman at Fellows Gear Shaper Cos., Springfield, Vt. Joe Shenstone is a British Air Commission inspector in Detroit. Jack Stephens, who is slowly getting to be the class's mystery man, is personnel director of Graver Tank and Mfg. Cos., in Hammond, Ind. I found out why Jim Towne is living on Staten Island. He's with the Federal Reserve in N. Y., and commutes. Lt. George Litchfield is officer in charge of depot inspection at the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot. Fred Seaver is with Rohr Aircraft at Chula Vista, Calif. Keresey now commands his own PT boat, and the Calder daughter is eating so much, she's got three chins.
Fred Seaver and Betty Carringer of San Diego were married July 12. Fred's doing defense work in San Diego. When are we going to change that to attack work? Ward DeKlyn, M.D., has put out his shingle in Danbury, Conn. After Dartmouth, he went to Northwestern, and then to Temple for his M.D. He married Louise Nast of Cleveland, and has a daughter Jeannie Kay. John Gaul and Ruth Naomi Jones were married July 4. Mildred Peasley is now Mrs. Francis Mooney. Jim Garvey and Bob Hall were ushers. It happened June 27. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emmet Foley (ahem) are living in Hanover. Fole's interning at Hitchcock. Charlotte Hernandez and Don Wilson are engaged. After graduating from Cornell Law, Don went into the Air Corps, and at last word was at Maxwell Field. Tom Rowland ushered at the wedding of Lt. Harry Page and Margaret Kirkpatrick, Chatham, N. J., June 6th. Harry's at Fort Bragg. Dr. C. Harris Brown (doesn't sound like the same person, does it?) and Rita Sullivan, Walden, N. Y., took the vows June 20th. Browny's an interne at the Waterbury, Conn., hospital. Bird-dog Emlen has gone to work for Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Md., after almost a year and a half of trying to get back in the sevice. Eml broke some bones when he was with the Philadelphia Troop, and was discharged. The army missed a good chance.
Harry Connor, Ted Bear, Bill Chamberlin, Herb Harries, John Mayer, and Tom Richmond are all captains, Marine Corps. At last some word from Frank Doane, who promised for some time to be the class mystery man. After a year at Fort Wright, N. Y., the Deacon went to O.C.S. at Camp Davis, N. C., and is now a 2nd Lieut, with the 18th C.A. at Ft. Stevens, Oregon. When are you going to marry that girl from Northhampton, Deac? Ensign Lewis Parker, U.S.C.G.R. is aboard an army transport in foreign service.
Pete Talbot was married June 6th to Gertrude Flither, Englewood, N. J., and is now at College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia. Bill Paull, Ist Lt., Air Corps, has been overseas since May, and spouse at two children are in Wheeling, W. Va. A short note from Dick Sherwin says, "Soon I will be sweating away my aldermanic belly as a student officer in Hanover, having received my commission as an Ensign D-V(P). Note from Ed White, he is a proud pop, Judith Ann." Clarkie Barrett sent a letter that needs more censoring than editing, and about all I can repeat is that he's been seeing action with the Naval Air Force in the Pacific. Last word from Bud Walls puts him in the Army. Reno's been transferred to Washington. I knew they'd need some help there soon. Larry Gotfredson married Peggy Powers February 14th, and this" is the first I've heard of it. Serves him right. Now he's with the 349 th Engineers at Claiborne. Bud Devlin's off for Norfolk with the Navy "Seabees," a construction battalion. Bob Brew is with Hughes Oil; reports Gross Williams still at home with wife and daughter, Jeanie.
Doug Carroll and Cy MacKinnon are with Sherwin-Williams in Chicago. In case it hasn't been mentioned ten times already, Leon Canfield and Ann Grover (Providence) were married April Bth. Lt. (j.g.) Jim McKeon is still on duty with the Pacific Fleet as a communications officer. Tel Mook is with Agricultural Marketing Administration in Washington. Dick Webb is an interne in Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston. Last word from Dana Lowell had him in New Caledonia. Pat Gorman, in case you didn't know, is now pop to P.H.G. III, aged 21/o, and Joanne, who by now must be about 7 months. Reports Joe Schaeffer as having a cake in the oven. Charley Hitchcock, back from Panama for a three months' furlough, has been spending it teaching at Thayer. Jim Whitcomb and Paul Barber are foremen at the Denver Ordnance Plant of Remington Arms.
