LEWIS PARKHURST, Dartmouth's beloved and respected alumnus, trustee and benefactor, is the subject of a biographical sketch in this issue written by EDWARD K. ROBINSON '04, and carried on page 15.

On page 11 is part of an address given by W. H. COWLEY '24, President of Hamilton College, at the mid-winter commencement exercises of the University of Minnesota, in which he decries the intellectual emphasis in education which may stifle realistic attention to immediate world problems.

A Generation Finding Itself, page 12, is the thoughtful description of the experience of "getting out of college"—by THOMAS W. BRADEN '40, onetime editor of The Dartmouth and respected leader in his youngest of alumni classes.

An intimate portrait of MARY SMALLEY, Hanover's dynamic eating club proprietress, is the gist of Ma Smalley: An Institution, by one of her club's own honored alumni, DAVIDM. CAMERER '37, on page 20.

Professor of Art CHURCHILL LATHROP has, while digging through Daniel Webster's voluminous oratory, uncovered a speech of unbelievable timeliness today. Greece and DanielWebster will be found on page 23.

After an exhaustive study of student records, EDWARD T. CHAMBERLAIN JR. '36, Assistant to the Dean of Freshmen, has arrived at interesting conclusions bearing on the relative effectiveness of public and private preparatory schooling. For a summary of his findings, turn to page 22.
