It is our pleasant duty to recall to your attention the fact that the Alumni Fund is carrying on at the old stand with slightly altered management. We refer, of course, to the substitution of H. F. Mackey, who has been warming up for several years as assistant class agent, for E. J. Foley Jr. who retires at the peak of his form with his record intact. The new captain will, undoubtedly, maintain the fine standards of his predecessors, but you should bear in mind the fact that a prompt contribution will be a tremendous help in getting the organization moving.
Howie Porter, a new assistant agent, wrote us with exemplary promptness to tell us that the campaign had begun and in his letter he included the following bit: "Herb and Tiny Shea and their son Tommie—aged s—were up for a week-end not long ago. We still find an occasional beer can behind a sofa pillow. He's in charge of a group of credit investigators at the Banker's Trust Cos. in New York.
Two issues of B. Winslow's SqueaksFrom The Golden Gate supply the information that Bill Evans is (a)—a member of the Dartmouth Outing Club of Northern California, and (b)—a member in good standing of the Club's ski team.
Willard L. Doyle, Esq., after trying the waters off Long Island in his recent life saving exploit has plunged into the marital waves. He was married in Flushing on March 12 th to Janet Long of that city. Mrs. Doyle is a graduate of St. Mary's Cathedral School in Garden City. Mr. Doyle is an alumnus of the Brooklyn Law School and is an Elk.
ACCOUNTING FOR FARRAND
George Farrand sends on the following summary to date of his activities past and current:
"After seven years on the staff of Lybrand, Ross Bros, and Montgomery in New York City, I left the distinguished company of Dave Evans and Bob Dickson last September to assume new duties as assistant to the Director of Research of the American Institute of Accountants. While my present undertaking is still related to the work of the C. P. A. it is a pleasant relief not to "tote" a padlocked bag or work every night for a month.
"It so happens that to-day (April 1) is the birthday of my five-year-old son, George Jr. We also have a little daughter, Carolyn, who is one. My wife, the former Pauline Merchant, was a teacher at Hanover High school during the deflationary period of our college sojourn. Perhaps some of the members of our class encountered her as the five foot "bouncer" at the High School dances.
"We are living at present in the wilds of Cranford, New Jersey, but expect to move to the more civilized region of the Oranges next summer.
"I ran across Bill Hitchcock and his pretty wife in New York one day; saw Bill Muller at a C. P. A. meeting in the Waldorf recently and participated in a Class Dinner at the Dartmouth College Club last Thursday. Those present were: Dave Evans, George Smith, Sam Black,Dick Rocker, Dick Graves, Joe Celano,Joe Searing, Dave Flynn, Dick Bradshaw,Ad Thurber and others. I spotted Bill McCombs in the Forty-second Street Stauf- fer's during the winter."
From old Franksgiving (Shoddy) Ripley, the president of the Troy, N. H., branch of the Lowell Textile Alumni Ass'n comes the following:
"Betty and our new daughter, Judith, came home from the hospital yesterday (March 7 th) and are both doing fine. It's some fun having a human alarm ' clock around the house.
"We had an interesting trip last November, going by air to Detroit and Chicago on business stops and ending up at St. Paul with Lyman and Betty Wakefield. We spent several days with them and also a day and a night with John and FlorenceFaegre in Minneapolis. Both John and Lyme for their early morning pick-ups take a few turns around their respective municipal skating rinks. It was something of a torture, but I tagged along and found that stems and Christies don't work quite the same on skates as on skis.
"Leaving Minneapolis we again took to the airways and ended up in Birmingham, Ala., for a day, Atlanta for a day and finally hit Palm Beach where we spent Thanksgiving. After some swimming, bicycling and tennis we headed back for the hills of Troy where the first horse blanket was made.
