With the immediate objective of acquainting every unmarried man in New England between the ages of so and 26 with the facts about the Flying Cadet program, the New England Flying Cadet Committee, with Major Willis S. Fitch '17 as general chairman, has been formed to assist in the procurement of flying cadets. This volunteer civilian committee will work in close cooperation with the Army Recruiting Service and with the many Civilian National Defense Committees that have already proved their effectiveness in general recruiting.

Major Fitch, Boston banker and aviator attached to the military staff of Governor Saltonstall, is a member of the Archie Club and of the Boston branch of the National Aeronautical Association. In the World War, he was awarded the Italian Medal of Valor and the Italian War Cross and last year after the publication of his book, "Wings in the Night," which tells of his war flights, the King of Italy made him a Chevalier Officer of the Crown of Italy.

"The major problem of the New England Flying Cadet Committee," Major Fitch says, "is the training of an adequate force of capable pilots. We in New England, because of our geographical and strategic location, are particularly concerned with the necessity for building America's air defenses."
