THIRTEEN ADDITIONAL MEMBERS of the Dartmouth staff have been granted leave for 1942-43 so that they may undertake war service, eleven with the military forces and two with the government. This brings to 58 the total number of academic, administrative, and athletic staff members who have left to engage in war activities.

Six men have received commissions in the Army Air Force. Ralph A. Burns, professor of education, and Robert A. McKennan '25, professor of sociology, have been commissioned captains; and George E. Diller, assistant professor of French; George L. Scott '25, assistant professor of education; C. Dean Chamberlin '26, instructor in English and associate in personnel; and Ford K. Sayre '33, manager of The Hanover Inn, have been commissioned first lieutenants. They have reported to Miami, Fla., for training.

Donald Bartlett '24, professor of biography, and John W. Finch, instructor in English, have received commissions in the Naval Reserve; and Albert L. Demaree, professor of history, a lieutenant (jg) in the Naval Reserve, has been called to active duty. Joel W. Egerer, instructor in English, is serving as first lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Leave has also been granted to Harold M. Bannerman, professor of geology, now Senior Geologist with the U. S. Geological Survey, and to Alberto Vazquez, assistant professor of Romance languages, who is information specialist and translator with the U. S. Department of State.
