Mountain Infantry
November 1942

WORD HAS JUST been received through the Personnel Bureau that selection of personnel for service with mountain forces of the U. S. Army, suspended on July 8, has been resumed. As before, the National Ski Association has the privilege of recommending men for the 87th Moun- tain Infantry, the first mountain regiment to be activated.

Men who have lived and worked in the mountains, such as rock climbers, trappers, packers, guides, prospectors, timber cruisers, etc., are preferred; if they ski, so much the better. Good skiers without extensive mountaineering experience, if they are physically fit for rigorous winter and mountain training, will be acceptable. Applications from young men who can show evidence of exceptional fitness as raw material, even though they have had no broad mountain experience will be considered. The emphasis is on toughness and the ability to "take it." No candidate need be a member of any ski or mountain club.

Men interested should write directly to Mr. Charles M. Dole, Chairman, National Ski Patrol System, 415 Lexington Avenue. New York, N. Y.
