IN AN EFFORT to aid in the conservation of gasoline and rubber through the limitation of non-essential driving, the Administration has banned the "local" use of cars and motorcycles by undergraduates. The ruling, which went into effect on November 8, is the result of a recent proposal by Palaeopitus in which the governing council asked for the prohibition of student driving. A compromise measure, forbidding the use of cars in Hanover except where there is a proved need, was agreed upon by both Administration and student committees after considerable discussion of the question.

An examination of gasoline ration books will be made in the near future and any student found misusing ration cards "will be immediately separated from the College," Dean Neidlinger announced.

While students are, at present, permitted to travel to and from nearby towns for special purposes, as well as out of town for week-end trips, it is almost certain that they will not be allowed to have cars at all after the close of the present semester.
