A good many of the Christmas cards received turned out to be quite newsworthy; we won't list all of them, but here are some quotes and comments on a few:
Maurice Rapf. .. ."Letters being almost impossible, I'll have to use this to say 'hello' and also for my annual notes to the column. This year they must be brief and, reflecting the spirit of the Pacific Coast, rather sombre. I have only to report that a daughter Joanna Elizabeth, now occupies most of our spare time, that I am still writing for 20th-century Fox and that's about it."
Ed Brunner... ."I'm another one of those damned economists in Washington, same gang as Dawson. The draft may get me soon, but it's OK with me."
Jim Walter, from Box 1366, Port Colborne, Ontario. .. ."Hello Gilly: Linda arrived last night, December 16th, nin.e pounds, nine ounces. Everything fine."
Cliff Mills, writing from down near the panhandle. .. ."GreetingsfromTexas.Now attached to the air corps as flight surgeon & address pro tern: Air Corps Advanced Flying School, Lubbock, Texas. Have a whale of a holiday."
Bill Clark sent a picture of husky young Peter.
Paul Rogers sent sketches of himself and Kay, and Andrea (July 13, 1940) and Terry (November 12, 1941)" on an old fashioned school slate.
Dave Smith boxed up a picture of blond David and brunette Nancy, put a tag on it and sent it along.

VIA THE BRITISH MAJOR-GENERAL ...
It had been our hope to be able to present some further episodes from the experiences of R. A. F. pilot Bob Sellmer, but we have had nothing in the way of a direct communique, nor has anything been received through any of the usual indirect channels. However, the following will interest most of you. We happened to be in Columbus at a banquet where the principal address on the subject LondonUnder Fire was made by Major-General Sir lan Hay Beith, well-known author and until a few months ago Director of Public Relations at the War Office. Later in the evening, firmly ensconced in a smoke-filled hotel room we settled ourselves over two tall glasses and discussed what all English and Americans are discussing these days, and in the course of our talk on the war we got around to Bob Sellmer. The MajorGeneral had known Bob well in the days when he was Director of Public Relations and Bob was London Times correspondent for Hungary and Slovakia stationed in Budapest; he said that Bob's work there had been much admired and that there were at that time very few American journalists as highly thought of as was Bob Sellmer. He knew that Bob had since joined the R. A. F. but did not have any news of him more recent than what was given to you last May in this column. Incidentally, we've concluded that our letters to Bob haven't gone through because we've had no reply; but we're writing again, and shall hope to bring you up to date before very long.
HANOVER HIATUS
Larry Sommer leaves Hanover after lengthy post-graduate service as manager of the Inn Coffee Shop, and is now managing Charlie Gow's Howard Johnson establishment out on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. Judging from a recent letter, Larry is very pleased with the change and is doing very well. He writes:
"Have seen quite a few '35ers, at Colgat game Chuck Hayes, Bob Naramore, Harvard game saw a few. Yale week-end spent with Bob Lovegrove: two beautiful daughters Bob looks great, is very successful.
"We had a '35 get-together at my new place of business on December 2: twentyseven men present, including the two newly recruited recruits, Dick Hurd and Bill Wilks. Both ardent anti-army training tactics—sich tales: made Abbott if Costello seem like pikers. Bill Rauschal, now in the planning department of Ginn & Company, and still the same old Bill.
"Others present who batted the old apple around were Dick Muzzy,. .. .HarryReynolds,... .Charlie Gow,. .. .Reg Bank-art,. .. .Joe Sholkin,. .. .Fran Chase,. ...Gene Burnkrant, teaching in Newton High,.... George Goodman, who keeps busy operating linoleum stores,. .. .DougLey,. .. .Gardy Cushman,. .. .RalphColby, the Steel Magnet of Greater Boston,. ... The Great Aieta, still as ****** as always,.... Oscar Cahoon,. .. .Phil Wilson,. .. .Jim West,. .. . Dick Turner,. .. .Norm Scott,. . . .Riv Jordan,... .Ken Kurson,. .. .and. .. .Bob Roundey. I must have lost track after the second beer but I know there were twenty-seven of us there at one time. Just a good general Bull a Bulla."
Offhand, we think he did very nicely: accounting for twenty-four out of a reported twenty-seven. Maybe he included in the first count those two pixies that Bud Cahoon usually brings up from the Cape with him, or maybe Riv Jordan is sizeable enough for two, or maybe Roundey and/or Aieta. .. .well, you name it. You name it, whatever it is, they've probably done it long since.
