Alumni Council Elections
February 1942

SECRETARIES OF ALUMNI CLUBS and associations have been notified that certain positions on the Alumni Council will become vacant in June. According to constitutional provisions the nominations for these places will be made by alumni clubs in the seven council districts of the country, but there is also a means of submitting nominations from any group of one hundred or more alumni. This latter possibility is explained below.

After nominations are received by the secretary of the Alumni Association in Hanover, mail ballots for election will be sent to all graduates of the College where more than one nominee is running for a Council vacancy.

Changes in the Council constitution this year provide for some new memberships, including three from a new Southwestern District (VI). There are also some changes in the states included in the Western District which are fully stated in a notice of vacancies that has been sent to secretaries of all alumni clubs and associations.

In the New England States District Edward K. Robinson '04 of Boston, completes his second term of office and is therefore not eligible for reelection.

In the Middle Atlantic Slates District Karl R. Maerker '10 of Pittsburgh completes his second term of office and is therefore not eligible for reelection.

In the Central States District J. William Embree Jr. '21 of Chicago completes his first term of office and is therefore eiigible for reelection.

In the Middlewestern States District, Thomas B. Curtis '32 of St. Louis completes his second term of office. With the shift of Missouri to the new Southwestern States District, a successor to Mr. Curtis will be elected from the following states: lowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

In the Southern States District Charles G. Milham '06 of Williamsburg, Va., completes his second term of office and is not eligible for reelection.

The new Southwestern States District includes the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. Three places will be filled in this year's election for which nominations are now in order and must be received from alumni clubs by March 10. The new members will serve first terms respectively of one year, two years, and three years on the basis of number of votes received.

In the Western States District Pat E. Kelly '09 of Seattle completes his first term of office and is eligible for reelection. There is another vacancy from the Pacific Coast because of the shift of Colorado to the new District VI and the transfer to it of the membership of Dr. T. D. Cunningham '13 of Denver. Alumni clubs in the far west will therefore pick a successor to Mr. Kelly and also a new member.

METHOD OF NOMINATION

According to Article V, Section 3, of the Alumni Council constitution, nominations beyond those submitted by approved alumni clubs may be made as follows:

The Secretary of the General Association of Alumni shall publish in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE not later than the February issue a statement of the vacancies, if any, tobe filled the ensuing July 1. In addition tothe method of making nominationsthrough local alumni clubs and associations as explained above, it will be possiblefor any group of 100 alumni qualified tovote in the Alumni Council election ofthat year to petition the Secretary in favorof a properly qualified nominee, the petition to carry the endorsement of the candidate whose name will then appear on theelection ballot of that district.
