Richard Parkhurst '16, who has for many years been associated with the Boston Port Authority as secretary and vice chairman, was recently elected to head this fifth in rank of the country's great ports.
The Boston Herald, in a January 4th editorial, commenting on the election with high praise for his predecessor, Chairman Louis E. Kirstein, said, "he has a right to feel completely satisfied with the progress made and to rejoice that he has such an able successor. The board has operated with great efficiency under him and Mr. Parkhurst, and no doubt will function just as effectively hereafter, when the requirements are even more exacting About 1250 vessels came here from foreign ports in 1941 and the quantity of goods unloaded was correspondingly great. The war has had about the same effect on the port as on the factories which are producing defense materials."
Mr. Parkhurst is the son of Lewis Parkhurst '78, who last year resigned as Life Trustee of the College.
