By popular demand, the play TheShoemaker's Carol, written by Charles K. O'Neill '31 and with Helen Menken featured in the cast, was rebroadcast over WABC the Tuesday before Christmas. After its initial broadcast the year before, the station had been swamped with hundreds of requests that they repeat the play.

O'Neill, who went abroad shortly after getting his A. 8., ripened his writing ability on the fabulous, sunny island of Mallorca where he sold his first pieces to Story, a magazine which germinated there and later was moved to New York for a brief but brilliant existence. Returning to his native Bridgeport, Conn., O'Neill then spent a year polishing up his craft as a reporter on the BridgeportHerald before launching himself as an independent writer.

His short stories have appeared in Everyman's, Pagany, Modern Youth,Vanity Fair, Esquire, and the NewYorker as well as in Story. SecondHusband and Aunt Jennie's RealLife Stories are the best-known radio programs for which he has done scripts. He has also written articles and popular songs and had one or two full-length plays come near enough to Broadway production to have had options taken on them.
