THE MOST PROMINENT Dartmouth event in St. Louis since the last deadline was the Annual Christmas Luncheon held at the Missouri Athletic Club. At this luncheon the alumni entertained students now in College and prospective freshmen and their fathers. The meeting was presided over by Ben Gutman '37, president, and talks were made by Fred Berthold Jr. '45, on "How A Freshman Feels At Dartmouth," Jim Curtis '42, on "What The War Has Done To Dartmouth," and Rev. Fred Long '11, chairman of the Alumni Interviewing Committee spoke on "Getting Into Dartmouth."
We had a fine turnout and, as usual, everyone enjoyed the luncheon very much. Among those attending was Ed Grace '38, resplendent in Army uniform, who had the job of taking some military prisoners from the west coast to Fort Leavenworth and then coming on here for the vacation.
St. Louis news has been heavy this past month. Dan Kirwin '35 sired a daughter for Smith. First Lt. Bill Curtis '36 got married and took his bride to Fort Barkeley, Texas. Clark Schmidt '33 became engaged to Margaret Cornwell. Her brother, Frank, is in the class of '35. Tom Curtis '32 returned in time for Brother Bill's wedding from a trip to Haiti which apparently was just one military secret after another and he hasn't had much to say about it.
The club members are doing their part in development of air raid precautions in this midwestern city. To us here, it still seems very remote.
Luncheons are still held at the American Hotel, Saturday, at 12:15 and visiting firemen are always welcome. Drop in and see us the next time you are in St. Louis.
