THE DEPARTMENTS OF Philosophy and Psychology were the sponsors of an open meeting to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the birth of William James on Sunday afternoon, January 11. Adelbert Ames Jr., Professor of Physiological Optics and a former Harvard student of William James, presided while Dr. Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy, Professor of Social Philosophy, and Charles Leonard Stone '17, Professor of Psychology, were the speakers who addressed the crowded audience in 13 Carpenter.
Professor Rosenstock-Huessy's address was on "William James, the Prophet of the Nation That Is To Be." Professor Stone spoke on the stature of William James as a psychologist, relating events of his adventurous and dynamic life, and pointing out that the great American they were honoring had been first a physiologist, then a psychologist, and finally a philosopher.
