"Young men need Dartmouth. It continues to function as a liberal arts college, to protect the 'hereafter' of democracy; in the meantime it is giving young men the discrimination and vision demanded by the officers' training schools of our armed forces. But its financial position is critical: a positive fact. Read page 9, March issue, over again—twice!

"Dartmouth must have our support if it is to educate those young men,—help win the war and preserve the peace. The Government encourages our support of the College, excuses us from income taxes on our Alumni Fund contributions. Let's better last year's marvelous job. We must find the 'ways and means' to keep that Dartmouth banner flying. I'll thank you. The Class will thank you. The College will utter a sigh of relief, and your Uncle Samuel will give you a pat on the back next March 15th; you will then thank yourself and utter a big sigh of relief."
