THE ANNUAL DINNER held at the University Club, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 11, and attended by 50 alumni and fathers of undergraduates, was highlighted not only by our guest speaker, Professor A. R. Foley, but also by local alumni honoring Karl Maerker '10, retiring member of the Alumni Council. Karl has served Dartmouth officially in many ways since his graduation, as president and secretary of the alumni association, and chairman of admissions committee. Locally, however, we know him best for his untiring interest in each Dartmouth man from the time that we first entered until after graduation when he helped many of us obtain jobs.
Professor Foley gave us one of our most interesting alumni meetings of recent years. His historical approach to presentday college problems and the part of the alumni in helping Dartmouth maintain her standards will be one we shall not forget soon.
The business meeting which preceded the speaker and the award to Karl Maerker resulted in the election of the following officers to assume their duties May 1: president W. C. Eaton 'l7, first vice-president Morton Burden Jr. '32, second vicepresident J. E. Kunkle Jr. 'l9, representing district members; third vice president Fred Babcock '38, treasurer Ralph L. Thomas '26, secretary William Lang '33. Announcement was made of the election of Nate Parker '26, to membership on the Alumni Council for the District.
The next alumni function—besides weekly luncheons at the Oliver Building Restaurant—is on June 27, the annual picnic.
