There's one place even quieter (maybe the word is stiller) than the Dartmouth Green at 2:00 a.m. on a snowy January night, and Budgeand Anne Gere have been there — Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes. It's the lost city of the Incas and, if you ever find yourself in Cusco, Peru, with a few hours on your hands, don't hesitate to go. (Amy and I spent a breathtaking day and night on the mountain a few years ago.) When not chasing llamas, Budge is pastor of a Presbyterian church in Seattle and Anne is a teacher in the University of Washington English Department. Budge, naturally, devotes much of his time to children. He's currently coaching a girls' soccer team.
