NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER '30, Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, was elected an Alumni Trustee of the College on May 8 at the annual commencement meeting of the Board of Trustees. He will succeed Philip S. Marden '94, former editor of the Lowell (Mass.) Courier-Citizen, who completes a second five-year term in June.
The election of Rockefeller, one of the youngest Trustees in Dartmouth's history, carries out the recently adopted policy of filling Board vacancies from the more recent classes. The new Trustee has been in close touch with Dartmouth affairs since his graduation and has been active in his class organization, serving as a member of 1930's executive committee for the past twelve years.
At its commencement meeting the Board of Trustees also approved five new additions to the faculty, voted one promotion, accepted three resignations, and elected to emeritus rank William F. Geiger '92, Professor of Education, who retired last June, and James A. Winans, Evans Professor of Public Speaking, who ended his active teaching career on May 10. Leaves of absence for the year 1942-43 were also voted to eleven members of the Dartmouth staff.
Among appointees to the faculty, Joseph J. Ermenc of Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute was named Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the Thayer School, and C. Ross McKenney, Outdoor Technician of the Outing Club, was appointed Instructor in Physical Education. William C. MacCarty Jr. '33 was appointed Instructor in Radiology in the Medical School; James G. Bennett, Teaching Fellow in Pathology in the Medical School; and George W. Schoenhut, Acting Technical Director of The Dartmouth Players.
The promotion voted was that of Henry L. Duncombe Jr., Assistant Dean of the Tuck School, from Instructor to Assistant Professor of Business Statistics.
The Trustees accepted the resignations of Kenneth K. Edgar as Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering in the Thayer School, Charles E. Moritz '33 as Instructor in Zoology, and Charles S. Denny as Instructor in Geology.
Leave of absence for the duration of the war was granted to Capt. Nathan T. Milliken, Instructor in Physical Diagnosis and Medicine, and to Capt. Henry L. Heyl, Instructor in Surgery, both of the Medical School, who have been ordered to duty with the Army Medical Corps.
Other leaves, necessitated by military service or government duties, were granted for the year 1942-43 to the following: Russell R. Larmon '19, Professor of Adminis- tration on the Benjamin Ames Kimball Foundation; Francis A. Linville, Assistant Professor of Economics; H.
