Although the football season is not yet half completed, candidates are already working out for the Big Green basketball team which will open an abbreviated court schedule early in December. Because Earl Brown, who is coaching basketball as well as football, will not take over the coaching reins until after the close of the grid season, Ensign Lee Williams, assistant physical training officer of the V-12 unit, is in charge of more than 30 selected candidates who have been drilling daily in the gym since early October.
Prospects for another championship basketball quintet are extremely slim this year with only two lettermen returning from last year's team which won the sixth consecutive E.I.L. title for Dartmouth. Aud Brindley, reserve forward last year, will probably spark the Indians' scoring offensive, while guard "Mo" Monahan, who is at present leading the Big Green football eleven, is slated to be a big factor in the Big Green defensive game. Other promising prospects include guard Lionel Baxter; Frank Plantamura, flashy forward who starred for St. Johns last winter; and Joe Faeter, regular Seton Hall forward last season.
