Earl Brown Takes Over as New Head Coach of Football; V-12 Athletes Give Dartmouth Powerful Baseball Nine

WITH THE ARRIVAL OF the Navy V-12 unit on July first, activities on the athletic front here in Hanover took a new upswing, and indications now point to a full athletic program in the months to come. Simultaneously this month, baseball and football hold the center of attention.

The establishment of this unit of 2,000 men will have a great effect on Dartmouth athletics. With the approval of their commanding officer, V-12 men will be eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics, and thus Big Green teams will be supplied largely by these trainees, many of them outstanding college athletes before being sent to Dartmouth.

It is to be made clear, however, that al- though the personnel of the Big Green teams will be almost entirely composed of Navy trainees, the direction and administration of Dartmouth's athletic program will remain in charge of the Dartmouth College Athletic Council under William H. McCarter, director of athletics.
