ALTOGETHER IN THE SPIRIT of the times, L the Cleveland group, or a reasonably representative sample thereof, gathered at the home of Howie Schuemann '33, to celebrate Dartmouth Night this year in what the pre-game dope branded as informal fashion. True, we gave up the former practice of meeting at one of the downtown clubs, but anytime H. R. S. breaks down in a weak moment and asks us again, we'll ignore his ridiculous apologies and move right in on him. Complete with the Dartmouth Glee Club (transscribed), the usual gaming tables, a very efficient (and expensive) Hermit Club lackey, a barrel of beer (and if anyone other than Bud Petrequin possesses the proper contacts to obtain one of these, let us know for future reference), the evening was topped off with a most delightful spread featuring two red point delicacies, cheese and a Newcomb super special boneless whole ham. Believe it or not, the boys brought their own points to keep Newcomb out of the clutches of the O.P.A. But so much for Dartmouth Night in this year of rationing, 1943.
We were honored at one of our October Saturday luncheons by the presence of H. K. Davidson 'l5, Woodsville, N. H., H. S. Temple '24, Marquette, Mich., and Trustee W. W. Grant 'O3, Denver, Colorado. All of these gentlemen were attending the 54th Triennial General Convention of the Episcopal Church and scampered off from their weightier duties to join us in a bite at our Mid-Day Club rendezvous.
Also in town within the month were Dan (Little Giant) Schuyler '34, Treasurer of McCullock Engineering Company of Milwaukee and a class- and room-mate of yours truly seen not once since that graduation day going on ten years ago, on a hasty business trip, and Lt. (jg) Bob Swander '33 up from D. C., also on business, but conveniently and strangely enough over the week-end of the Navy-Notre Dame football game.
