Notes from all over, past and present.
Steve and Joey Tate clocked a lot of mileage last fall when they set down in far-away Bali for a couple of weeks. They say that "the plane fare was arduous and expensive, but the prices are right when you get there... we wish we could have stayed longer."
You may have seen in "Give a Rouse" that Pete Schaub, CFP, vice president/financial consultant with Shearson Lehman Brothers, has been elected chairman of the board of the AAA New Jersey Automobile Club.
Word from Bruce Thompson, out of Lynchburg, Va., says that he and wife Puss had a dandy 68th birthday gathering for surgeon Earl and Betsy Owen last spring. Dr. Earl; who is Puss's brother, is semi-retired, filling in at local hospitals as needed, but spending more and more time "fishing, a bit of tennis, and a lot of puttering around the house and yard." Betsy, meanwhile, is still actively painting. The Owens have four grandchildren and say "no way" can they match the Thompsons, who have ten.
Joe Hatch, out of Maryland, has been out with canoe and paddle again—this time down the Alagash in Maine. He says the bugs were as much a hazard as the rocks and rapids. Before taking to the river, Joe completed his eighth annual Sierra Club workshop.
Lydia McLoud, Malcolm's widow, out of Terrace Park, Ohio, sends word that their son, Pablo, an environmental engineer in San Francisco, has been married in Hawaii.
Chuck and Sally Secor, out of Ross, Calif., will be keeping a distant eye on Memorial Field in Hanover, where nephew Pete Essig '93 is a varsity footballer.
Dick and Proc Ostberg, out of Ipswich, Mass., write glowingly of an Elderhostel "affair" in Paris last winter including lectures and tours and extensive tromping around the city's museums, parks, bridges, towers, etc.
Hanoverite Dave Eckels was featured in a Dartmouth affirmative action newsletter as the fellow who has spearheaded most of the campus's disability access ramps, elevators, at al. Plus a class of '44 project which involves a permanent display case in front of the Hopkins Center showing all of the facilities on campus and environs for the physically handicapped.
Recent additions to all this are Russ andHelena Burdge, who in August exchanged their Huntington, L.I., address for one right smack on the edge of town. Russ is a retired pediatrician, but in no way retired from tennis and golf. Just look out the window and you'll see him on the courts/links.
A dandy mini-mini was hosted and toasted by the gracious Ezz and Pat Hale at their scrumptious summer place, Taj Mahale, near Lake Placid in upper New York State. On hand were the Bob McLaughrys, the Ben Joneses, the Warren Leopolds, the Mo Distins, and the Fritz Hiers.
Don't miss it: our '44 mini-reunion, Oct. 24—26, Cornell game.
That's it. Blessings.
