FIVE NEW APPOINTMENTS to the College Staff have been announced since the opening of the fall term at Dartmouth. They are: John M. Hirst '38. Instructor in Electrical Engineering at Thayer; Samuel Coombs '44, Instructor in Physics; Nelson P. Brown Jr. '36, Assistant to the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds and Associate in Graphics; Carl F. Breisacher, Instructor in Ophthalmology at the Eye Institute; and Rita Walsh, Clinical Fellow in Physiological Optics at the Eye Institute.

Mr. Hirst, the new Instructor in Engineering at Thayer, graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, returned to Dartmouth to take a graduate course at Thayer, and received his C.E. degree. He became a draftsman in the Engineering Department of the Boston and Maine Railroad, and then a Fire Protection Engineer in Boston. He will assume his new teaching duties on January 1.

Mr. Brown, Buildings and Grounds Staff, is the son of Judge Nelson P. Brown '99, and the grandson of former President William Jewett Tucker of Dartmouth. He has come to Dartmouth from Maine where he was engaged in hotel management. Earlier he was a draftsman with Jones and Lamson in Springfield, Vermont.

Mr. Breisacher will begin instruction in Ophthalmology at the Eye Institute on December 1, giving up his private practice in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to take the position. He received his B.S. at Gettysburg College in 1932, his M.D. at Jefferson Medical College in 1936, took his internship at Protestant Episcopal Hospital, 1937 and 1938, and was resident ophthalmologist at Wills Hospital 1939 to 1940.

Miss Walsh, a clinical fellow in Physiological Optics, received her B.S. at University o£ Puerto Rico in 1939, a B.S. from Columbia University in 1943, and has been an Assistant on the Staff of the Dartmouth Eye Institute. Very recently she completed her certification as Aniseikonic Clinician.
