DARTMOUTH NIGHT in Washington was celebrated November 5th with a dinner at the Mayflower Hotel at which Professor Allen R. Foley, of the History Department, was our guest speaker. In his address to the 150 Dartmouth men who turned out for the occasion, Professor Foley emphasized the importance of strong motivation in the development of the Modern Liberal Arts College and in the education of men both for service in the armed forces and in the peacetime world following the conclusion of present hostilities.
During the evening, entertainment was provided by music from local entertainment sources headed by Miss Lynn Allison of the Capitol Theater.
Among the guests were Joseph B. Eastman, honorary '4l, Director of the Office of Defense Transportation; Nelson A. Rockefeller '3O, Coordinator of InterAmerican Affairs; George Maurice Morris 'll, former President of the American Bar Association; Warren Kendall '99, Association of American Railroads; James V. Forrestal 'l5, Under Secretary of the Navy; John L. Sullivan '2l, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury; Senator Charles W. Tobey of New Hampshire; and James B. Reynolds '9O, President of the Class Agents Association.
Toastmaster for the occasion was Lieut. Col. Willis F. Fitch 'l7. Richard P. White 'lB, President of the Dartmouth Club of Washington presided. Arrangements for the occasion were made by Louis J. Fortuna '3B.
