JUNE 1973 LUMAN B. HOWE, LEONARD J. READE

This is springtime and the big pull to return to Hanover is in the air. First, there will be Class Officers' meetings, to be followed by June reunions for many classes. Our president BobBoynton will be on hand to welcome any and all '17ers who can make Post-50th. Do check your calendar and let your class secretary know if you will be there.

Sherm Smith, our prize-winning Sentry editor, is staying a bit quieter, on his doctor's advice. He is a big help in keeping in touch with us all, and provides the spark for that enduring spirit of '17.

In a note from Harold (Friday) Bean, he reminisces about a skating trip that Bob Scott and a group of us made from Ledyard Bridge to Orford. That was back in 1916! Old friends of Cosmos will note that our former historic location will provide the space for a new and modern commercial bank. Incidentally, Friday will recall that the bonds on that club house paid off 100%, even in depression years.

Ralph (Sandy) Lynch writes in his usual humorous vein. Believe it or not, he celebrated his birthday (age not given!) by going skiing with his four sons. We trust, Sandy, that you will keep those bones intact and make each of our seasonal reunions.

From Nixonian Key Biscayne, Ed Smith tells us how he used to commute from White River Junction to Hanover on horseback. We hope to see Ed when he comes north for the summer months.

With sadness we report the passing of our beloved classmate, Donald Brooks. Well known to many classmates, he had served for years, both as treasurer and secretary of the Class. Ill health forced him to give up the secretaryship in 1969. There will be a memorial service in the latter part of June, when all of his family can be together.

It was also a shock to learn of the sudden death of Stanley Kingsbury of Waban, Mass. Your secretary has expressed the sympathy of the Class to his widow Eleanor. She has been most helpful in furnishing data for a report which will appear in a subsequent issue of the Alumni Magazine.

Mindful of our loyalty and our debt to the College, Len Reade continues his herculean job as Class Agent. This task is not easy, particularly as we have lost many of our generous donors during the past year. It is heartening to receive the memorial gifts from family members as well as from friends of our classmates. Let us not fail to give Len our strong support in his efforts.
