Two MORE DARTMOUTH dormitoriesGile and Lord Halls—were closed down on February 6 as a result of shrinking enrollment and the need of conserving fuel. These two residence halls joined Fayerweather, South Fayerweather and Richardson, which were closed earlier, but only four dorms are actually empty since Middle Fayer has been turned over to the Naval Training School.
In closing some dormitories and shifting men to new residence quarters, the College is endeavoring to keep its students in a compact unit about the campus. The two buildings closed are on Tuck Mall, some distance from the central heating plant, and along with Streeter Hall, which will be closed next, they form a residence unit that will be advantageous for a military training group such as the Navy student unit recently assigned to Dartmouth.
