ANOTHER SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
December 1924

Bill Blatner '05 is coming over to the lunch next Monday at the University club at 12:15 and bring with him a bunch of ballots. Then he is going to tell the boys about the various candidates who are running for office. He says that State's Attorney Crowe (you may have heard of him) is coming with him. So we should all have a jolly lunch.

All records were broken at the Dartmouth Harvard returns last Saturday, there being over 150 on hand, about 20 of these were Harvard men. The only change in the personnel of the officials was in the doortender, which position was ably filled by Herb Mitchell '07 and Ed. Swenson '23.

It was a great gathering and all seemed happy and contented. True, some of the boys saved 75 cents by phoning for the results during the first half and then dropping in during the second half, but why criticise? We'd probably have done the same thing ourselves if we'd thought of it.

Next Saturday the Brown alumni are going to take over our wire for the Dartmouth-Brown returns and will charge any Dartmouth man who attends a nominal fee. At the lunch last Monday there were quite a few who said they'd go.

The classes of '23 and '24 pulled off their dinner as per schedule at "the club" last Saturday night, twenty-two of them paying for their dinner. So far no casualties have been reported.

At the lunch last Monday some of the regulars were overcome with lethargy and failed to show up, but there were fifty-two staunch Dartmouth men on hand, determined to have a good time. I don't know when I have seen as handsome a group of men ever gathered at a lunch.

The relaxation period after the food was spent in listening to speech making and by some strange coincidence the topics were all on football.

Wallie McCornack '97 was the first speaker. He told of his trip to Hanover and what he thought of the team. He said it looked like we ought to beat Harvard. He was followed closely by Rus Pettengill '09 who has been in the east and saw the Yale game. He told us what he remembered of the game.

Next came Handsome John Redington '00 who spent two very pleasant days at Hanover recently and while he didn't see any games he talked personally to Jess Hawley. He said "Hello" on the street. Warren Agry '11 was back from the Harvard game looking thin and wan like he had had an ocean voyage. He saw the Harvard game and described it to the best of his ability.

Pudge Neidlinger '23 who occupies an important post in New York was also present and gave his impressions of the team. You will recall he was a star linesman last year.

Secretary Bruner reports that there was only one man who didn't pay for his lunch. He is almost positive that it vyas an oversight.

Justus Millard Fleming '21 who has just come to town from La Porte, Ind., was present and had charge of the collections at the door. He is looking for a job. We are sure his experience Monday will qualify him as a cashier anywhere.

There were two father and son combinations and one brother combination present. Clint Cheney and his little boy, Joe, Major Redington and his two boys, John and Theodore, two lovely boys, and the Meyers brothers, Art and Laddie.

Harry Woleben 'B3 says his boy, Wilbur 'lB, is the coach at Lincoln College, Lincoln, Ill. You should be proud of him, Harry.

The older lads were in the majority again, 29 before '16 and 23 after '16. Among those present who haven't been on the job (outside of the ones mentioned elsewhere) were Earl Barber '13, Mercer R. Bowers '24, (Mercy!), Palmer Kiser, H. J. Morton '11, T. T. Metzell '23 and that's all.

We notice among the Dartmouth notables who paid large income taxes was Jake Glos 18, who came through with over 5,000 bucks. Up and at him, insurance solicitors and bond salesmen.

Bert Wheeler '11 wants to see Charlie Eldridge '84 at the next lunch. Bert says Charlie was m his father's class and he wants to get something on the old man. I guess the old man wouldn't have much trouble getting something on Bert.

See you all next Monday when Crowe will answer questions on the Franks case.
