AT NEW YORK DINNER were Guy Perry and his Navy son, Fletch Rogers, Ray Seymour, Capt. Dinnie Pratt, Tom Foster, Russ Palmer, Pineo Jackson. THIS NORTON FELLOW, who got a fat promotion from U. S. Rubber of recent, pens, "After this winter I am not going to retire on any farm that is farther north than Carolina." That gave us a laugh for, actually, he doesn't know a Hereford steer from a New Hampshire Red cockerel....
he is always talking about retiring and taking life easy, but here he goes and takes a boost that puts him into turbulent urban life, something he never did like .... and at the same time, he serves notice that henceforth our "beefing sessions" must end at 10 P.M., which is the worst shock of all after some 35 years of high accomplishment. I can stand it if MacPherson can .... but being Scotch, he'll undoubtedly figure that he is saving time.
AL DICKERSON'S BULLETIN brought a lot of nice comments and unstinted praise for our old stand-by, Andy Scarlett, than whom no Class has a more valuable member .... we all can make the Professor's job easier this spring by subscribing promptly to the Alumni Fund, for it is no secret in Hanover that he watches 1910's gifts each week in his eagerness to do a grand job.
ART ALLEN gets the very deep and sincere sympathy of the Class in the loss of his fine wife on Nov. 18. It was a terrific shock to receive a letter recently from Ralph Paine telling us that Ann retired at night feeling well as usual, to pass away during the early morning. Although she has not been well for some time, no one realized the seriousness of her condition for, as we all know, she was the type to carry on ... .
no wife in the Class was better known, and none ever entered into the spirit of Dartmouth with more zeal and feeling. She would not want Tenners to mourn her passing but we all can retain some splendid memories of a lady who came down through the years with us, ever enthusiastic, ever willing to lend her bit in making our Reunions outstanding successes .... a grand wife for Art, a perfect mother to Priscilla and Art, Jr.
HERB WOODS is spending this weekend at Hanover .... something at Tuck School where we had an interesting experience with a class recently. Incidentally, those Tuck professors are doing some real work with their boys, and are very genuine and serious in their effort. Herb wanted Andy, Bertha, Marion and myself to have dinner with him at the Inn, but we are forced to leave it to the others as we are heading for the meeting of secretaries, treasurers and class agents in Boston.
RALPH PAINE and wife took Art Allen to Florida for a short trip Paul Whitcomb reports Minneapolis store business booming Billie Williams is with Johns-Manville Word from Tenners everywhere indicate the deep feeling that existed for Bunny Armstrong Jack Dingle volunteers to be one of several Tenners to start a Permanent 1910 Fund, the income of which would go to the College long after we as individuals have ceased to exist, each member now to allocate a $500 bond or insurance policy.... the plan has no little merit.... but space does not permit its full discussion here.
OFFSPRING .... George Reynolds is in the U. S. Army, was stationed for a time at Roosevelt estate in Hyde Park .... his sister Betsy is very happy teaching music in Croton, N. Y., public schools Dorothy Loveland and Douglas Scott, Antioch graduates of 1940, were married in March, 1941, have a daughter born October, 1942; he is Tech. Sergeant in Army at Fort Knox. .... Wilcomb Washburn has been chosen valedictorian of his class at Exeter.
I ran across Larry Leavitt in Hanover yesterday .... his Vermont Academy has had a flock of 1910 sons, among whom at present are Peanuts Jackson, Reunion buddy o£ Tobe and myself Tobe's own son, Dick Charlie Kent, youngster with private flying license, who is headed for Uncle Sam's Air Force when he graduates in June. Larry said that one of his graduates last June was Ben Leland Wallace, all three being names any tenner would recognize quickly for Lou Wallace named his son after Ben Willams and Slip Powers the lad is now in the Army Air Corps.
Priscilla, daughter of Ollie Johnson, and John W. Woerner Jr., Lieut, (jg) USNR, are to be married May 1 in St. Alban's Church, Washington, after which they will live at 2059 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington Josephine Albert graduated from Texas State College for Women, Feb. 1 Paul Jr. is in Enlisted Reserve Corps at Centre College awaiting call to duty Bob Taylor, son of Otto, was a recent Dartmouth graduate, is now with U.
